Established in 1982, the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (PMCF) raises funds for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.
Since it’s inception, the PMCF has been setting daring and audacious goals with a mindset that is driven by our culture and passion for the cause. We have pioneered many successful fundraising programs, including our world-leading Princess Margaret Home Lottery, and some of the world’s largest cancer fundraising events, and have a sophisticated Major and Estate Giving program. The Foundation’s vision, which you would share, is to Conquer Cancer in Our Lifetime.
The Princess Margaret is a proud member of University Health Network, Canada’s largest research hospital network, which also includes Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Rehab Institute and The Michener Institute for Education.
If you are a passionate cancer advocate, empathetic leader, and a skilled fundraiser with a successful track-record of securing six, seven, and even eight figure gifts, we’d love to meet you.
Reporting to the Vice President, Development, the Director, Major Gifts will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of those capable of contributing $100,000 or more via strategic and proactive management of a cancer-site based portfolio. Working closely with senior leaders across the Foundation, including the Board of Directors, this role offers a dynamic and exciting next challenge as you progress in your career.

- Set and achieve bold objectives with an annual personal revenue goal of $3M+.
- Manage a pipeline of 100 to 150 prospects and donors.
- Design, develop and implement strategies unique to each individual prospect or donor.
- Build and maintain positive, trusted relationships with Foundation colleagues, volunteers and Cancer Centre partners (physicians, researchers and other hospital staff).
- Effectively communicate Cancer Centre clinical and research priorities to prospects and donors.
- Collaborate with internal teams who will provide you with the tools required to advance your work (proposals, impact reports, presentation decks, gift processing, stewardship activities, etc.).
- Commit to best practices and procedures for record keeping in the Blackbaud CRM database.
- Supervise a team of three prospect researchers.
- Comply with all UHN health and safety regulations and adhere to Foundation policies, procedures and ethical standards.
- A minimum of eight years progressive experience in all aspects of philanthropy. Preferably, some of that time has been in a healthcare/hospital environment.
- Significant experience in engaging individuals, corporations, and foundations at all stages of the donor cycle.
- A comprehensive understanding of the full range of giving vehicles. Knowledge of bequests and other forms of planned giving would be an asset.
- A history of working successfully with fundraising volunteers.
- Experience working on landmark fundraising campaigns would be an asset.
- A belief in the power and collective impact of exceptional teams and the importance of collaboration.
- Emotional intelligence, including the ability to read people and situations, as well as high levels of self-awareness and compassion.
- The ability to effectively manage both people and processes.
- Excellent time and priority management skills.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
- Authenticity, curiosity and flexibility.
- A desire to adopt new technology and embrace data and advanced analytics to maximize effectiveness.
- Financial numeracy and experience setting goals, monitoring progress and forecasting.
- Strong knowledge and use of Raiser’s Edge/Blackbaud CRM.
- Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree.
- Fundraising Certification from an accredited body (i.e.: CFRE, FAHP) is an asset.
