Leading the fundraising and alumni relations activities for University of Toronto Scarborough, the Development & Alumni Relations Office (DARO) supports the campus and over 60,000 alumni. At this time, UTSC is undertaking an ambitious strategic plan with an approach of inspiring inclusive excellence. Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Advancement, the Director of Alumni Relations is responsible and accountable for the success, design, implementation and management of a comprehensive alumni relations program at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). Responsibilities include identifying and engaging alumni whose participation supports strategic priorities and mission of UTSC. The Director of Alumni Relations will lead a strategic planning process by engaging senior staff within the Development and Alumni Relations Office, members of the U of T Scarborough Alumni Association Board, Management Alumni Association Board, other alumni stakeholders and senior University administrators to develop a long-term vision that speaks to the role of alumni within U of T Scarborough. With a dotted line reporting relationship to the Managing Director, Department of Management, and in collaboration with the Assistant Director, External Relations and Communications the Director of Alumni Relations will be responsible for creating a distinct alumni engagement program for Management alumni that is consistent with the vision and values of the Department.

The complexity and scope of the alumni relations and advancement programs require the efficient and effective management of all related processes to ensure that the flow of information, the execution of events and follow-up of activities are facilitated by the incumbent and the staff assigned to each function. Other responsibilities include both short- and long-term integration of alumni relations with other advancement activities, and providing guidance and professional advice to staff and senior administration regarding the University’s related strategies and approaches.

Qualifications (Minimum):

EDUCATION:

University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 8 to 10 years’ experience in an advancement role, preferably in a university environment in a senior alumni relations portfolio. Experience developing and executing multi-faceted alumni relations programs is required.

SKILLS:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email and internet software; Keyboarding skills; familiarity with donor management systems such as Raiser’s Edge; knowledge of Blackboard and Graduway an asset.

OTHER:

Ability to project manage, multi-task and work toward deadlines in a hectic environment and to high performance standards. Demonstrated ability to engage key stakeholders. Outstanding communication skills (oral and written). Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy. Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate others.  Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
