The Director, Annual Giving & Advancement Operations is accountable for providing strategic leadership for the activities and results of core business functions across the Advancement Department including annual giving, funding priority system management and fundraising Business Intelligence (BI). The successful candidate will be at the forefront of our mission to optimize digital fundraising outcomes, build strategy designed to increases revenue while growing and retaining our donor base through acquisition and stewardship efforts, oversee and guide our BI initiatives to transform data into actionable insights. The ideal candidate will be a strategist with a ‘roll up their sleeves’ attitude as the expectation is that they will lean in as a doer, in addition to project manager and leader.

The Director leads a team of four, and works collaboratively with colleagues from supporting departments, including Donor Services and Finance. As a member of the Advancement department senior leadership team, the Director, Annual Giving & Advancement Operations will work closely with department executives to build and maintain systems and processes that support the expert functioning of a comprehensive fundraising portfolio.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide strategic leadership for multi-channel annual campaigns, with a goal on retaining, upgrading, and engaging all segments focusing on donor retention and engagement.
  • Develop the Annual Giving portfolio to achieve financial and fundraising goals as outlined in the annual plan in partnership with the Senior Development Officer, Annual Giving
  • Drive the evolution of fundraising strategy across digital channels including email, paid search, and paid advertising for both one time and monthly giving.
  • Work with internal teams and external agencies to optimize digital mid-level and sustainer growth – focusing on acquisition, retention and upgrade strategies and ensuring optimal donor journeys, operations, and treatment across digital channels.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive BI strategy aligned with the business’s goals and objectives in partnership with the Senior Development Officer, Analytics and Database Management.
  • Oversee the collection, integration, and management of data from various sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Lead the design and implementation of robust reporting systems and interactive dashboards to provide real-time insights and monitor activity and progress towards the operating plan and campaign in partnership with Finance and Donor Services
  • Establish and enforce processes and data governance policies to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Lead the optimization and management of digital fundraising systems (Raisers Edge, Financial Edge, MailChimp and Raisin) ensuring infrastructure, processes, coding, and procedures are in place to meet business objectives
  • Provide oversight to produce high-quality, accurate and compelling proposals and reports for current and prospective donors.
  • Enhance and maintain a precise Funding Priority system in collaboration with Clinical Service and Finance.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends for digital fundraising, technology, and reporting/analytics
  • Coach and support direct reports to achieve team goals on time and on budget.
  • Build and develop successful partnerships with external suppliers, vendors, and partners, and manage their performance.

What You’ll Need

  • A track-record of values-based leadership with a deep passion for the mission and values of Kids Help Phone
  • University degree and/or equivalent education and a minimum of seven years’ experience in fundraising operations (specifically fundraising /digital marketing experience; with a strong focus on annual and monthly giving, funding priorities and BI)
  • Minimum 2+ years’ management experience in both program and people leadership
  • Expertise in non-profit online fundraising and CRM software and tools, such as Blackbaud (Raisers Edge + Financial Edge), MailChimp and Raisin, including an understanding of HTML 5 and CSS, would be strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and expertise of data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI, in particular understanding and applying business requirements, designing data models, and working with Data Analysis Expressions (DAX).
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment in digital fundraising or income generation, including strong understanding of testing methodologies and knowledge of integrated digital marketing.
  • Ability to develop and manage complex, tactical multi-channel strategies, understand strategic directions, programs, and issues to help advise program area and stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing successful Funding Priority management to coordinate fundraising efforts precisely and strategically Knowledge and experience of the systems and strategies that support a high-growth annual and monthly giving program.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a problem-solving approach.
  • Experience in a complex not-for-profit organization, preferably a national organization
  • Ability to work independently and in a dynamic team environment – developing partnerships with colleagues in a multidisciplinary environment at all levels within the organization
  • Demonstrated proficiency in overseeing the development of transformational-level gift proposals, including clear, accurate budget information and program milestones
  • Expert organizational, time and project management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Confidence in your ability to challenge status quo and manage the risk threshold
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) an asset
  • Fluency in French an asset
