ABOUT THE POSITION AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Canadian Stage, one of Canada’s leading professional non-profit theatres, is searching for a full-time Director of Development and Campaigns to join our team.
The Director of Development and Campaigns is a member of the organization’s Senior Leadership Team and an ex-officio member of the Board of Director committees, working in close collaboration with the Artistic Director and Executive Director.
The Director of Development and Campaigns will drive strategy and work alongside the Artistic and Executive Directors, and Board and key artists, to engage donors and sponsors, ensuring a high level of planning, coordination, preparation and follow-through of fundraising activities. The Director will lead and participate in raising philanthropic support, ensuring efforts are focused and coordinated to make the most effective and strategic use of the organization’s resources and capacity. In doing so, the role will ensure long-term plans and that logistics for events and campaigns are coordinated at the highest level.
The Director of Development and Campaigns will be a results-oriented fundraising professional who will lead and drive long-term strategies that raise $4-5M annually.
The Director of Development and Campaigns will possess strong experience in identifying prospects, creating meaningful cultivation strategies, and closing gifts from a variety of donors and sponsors at the six-figure and seven-figure levels. In addition, the Director will play a key leadership role in the planning and launch of a once-in-a-generation campaign. The successful candidate will have demonstrated inclusive leadership and team-building skills, with the capacity to recruit, coach and energize a team of five (5) fundraising professionals which is anticipated to grow in the coming seasons. The Director of Development will meaningfully engage and work closely with the Board of Directors and other volunteers in resource development to support Canadian Stage’s mission and future.
The salary for this position is $135,000+ CAD per annum, commensurate to experience and competencies. In addition, Canadian Stage offers a competitive benefits plan covering life, medical and health insurance, and short-term and long-term disability benefits for employees and their immediate family. This is a permanent, full-time position based from Canadian Stage at 26 Berkeley Street, Toronto. For remainder of 2022, staff are expected to be present in our offices for a minimum of 3 days per week, with additional flexibility for events, donor meetings, etc. A hybrid/flex model is anticipated to continue in future years to allow some days of flexible remote work, though the majority of work hours will be onsite in the theatre facilities and offices.
KEY COMPETENCIES
• Manage a personal portfolio of 50+ donors and prospects with the capacity to make a gift of $25,000+ and oversee the fundraising activities/outcomes of the Development Team.
• Possess at least 8+ years of experience in development roles, with experience supporting the activities of senior leaders and volunteers.
• Relevant progressive experience leading and developing high-performing comprehensive fundraising programs.
• Prior experience in capital or comprehensive campaigns would be an asset. • Create and enable strategies to engage diverse donor communities.
• A fulsome understanding of prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship practices related to individual, corporate, foundations and events.
• Strong project management skills that create systems, team accountabilities, and followthrough.
• Demonstrated leadership and team building skills including in plan development, hiring and coaching, and evaluating direct reports.
• Oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on proposal development and delivering presentations.
• Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization. • Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with obstacles or constraints.
• Knowledge of donor databases required. Experience in Tessitura is considered an asset.

COVID-19
