Up With Women / Exponenti’elles is a national charity dedicated to helping women and gender diverse individuals experiencing low-income to build a sustainable pathway out of poverty. We are growing and have an evidence-based strategy for continuing to scale across Canada. We need a Director who will help nurture and grow our supporter relationships and champion expansion across Canada within the funder community. Salary Range: $100,000 – $125,000
WHO YOU ARE
You are a creative, experienced, self-motivated fundraising professional who is excited about the opportunity to help grow a proven, innovative and entrepreneurial high-impact charity. This position manages our small fundraising/comms team. (one direct report and freelancers at present.) Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the strategy for development including a strong base of corporate partnerships that are in place and need stewardship and strategic management. You will also work with and grow a foundations portfolio, and develop a plan for individual donors with the team. You will engage and support senior staff and volunteers in fundraising and communications, and work closely with the Programs and Finance departments. WHAT YOU’LL DO
As part of our energetic team, you will be accountable for the developing the fundraising strategy and goals for the organization. Specifically you will:
- Manage and grow a 2 million-dollar plus donor portfolio, consisting of corporate partners and family foundations, some government, and major individual donors while managing and guiding our annual giving and communications staff
- Develop strategies for the effective stewardship and solicitation of corporate and foundation partners including activation plans, growth proposals and more for this critical donor segment
- Prepare strategic and annual plans for the growing the development portfolio – and have primary responsibility for delivery of these portfolio plans with team support
- Work closely with CEO and other stakeholders on fundraising and donor stewardships as appropriate
- Develop targeted pitches to maximize partnerships and secure long-term, multi-year engagement with existing funders focusing on unrestricted revenue
- Research and identify new corporate prospects (e.g., cause marketing, CSR, sponsorships, and employee engagement), and other potential funders
- Work closely with the finance team for budget development and financial monitoring.
- Work collaboratively across all teams to develop partnerships that increase brand recognition, digital and social media reach, thought leadership profile and donor and volunteer engagement
- Develop and oversee the donor journey and stewardship strategy for donors
- Collaborate with the Programs team to develop project inventory and fundraising offers, and present offers to assigned potential and current donors highlighting our work in Canada
- Oversee funding proposals and donor reports as required with support from the broader team
- Evaluate the suitability of potential partners against UWW’s gift acceptance policy
- Conduct trend analysis for all relational fundraising portfolios
- Maintain effective and organized tracking systems, reporting, and donor and prospect files using Salesforce
- Embrace and enact UWW organizational values
WHAT YOU CAN OFFER
- 5-10 years of professional fundraising experience, with corporate partner experience a must
- Strong understanding of fundraising principles, partnerships and major gifts and the importance of donor relationship building
- Excellent knowledge of pipeline management and understanding of multiple giving streams (philanthropic, foundation, corporate social responsibility, individual giving strategies, employee giving, cause marketing) and best practices
- Expertise with fundraising databases (ideally Salesforce) to maximize donor management and revenue
- Ability to write effective proposals and communication pieces for qualified prospects and existing donors
- Have a proven track record in personally soliciting and closing gifts in the $10K to $500K range
- Able to effectively meet and build relationships with a wide range of donors including high net-worth individuals
- Astute, professional and able to take donors through the full donor journey/cycle
- Sound knowledge of the Canadian not-for-profit sector and a social justice orientation
- Demonstrate a high level of initiative, responsiveness, creativity, engagement, negotiating and influencing skills
- Solid communication and presentation skills
- Ability to travel locally and within Canada
- Fluency in French and additional languages is an asset, English is required
- Lived experience of the intersecting challenges that our clients face is an asset
- CFRE certification is an asset
