Location: Our office is located in Toronto, Ontario, however this position can be located anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area with flexible / hybrid work arrangements available.

We are looking for a mission-driven, results-oriented and experienced Director of Philanthropy who is passionate about finding new individual and foundation donors to support CFCC and taking individual giving & foundation giving to the next level, as per CFCC’s strategic plan and annual goals.
Reporting to the Chief Development & Communications Officer, the Director of Philanthropy will work collaboratively with their team of engaged staff and their peers  to lead, inspire and support the DevComms team towards its ambitious goals.
Responsibilities
Planning, Strategy, Reporting 
  • Provide strategy and leadership for the individual & foundation ($10,000+) portfolio, for both annual and capital program objectives.
  • In collaboration with the CDCO and peers, lead the development and execution of the annual portfolio plan, setting revenue targets and KPI’s tied to the strategic plan, and monitoring team activity and success.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Philanthropic Operations and Stewardship to leverage internal data and external trends and insights to inform CFCC’s cultivation and stewardship strategies.
  • Collaborate with CDCO to establish and achieve campaign objectives including current and future capital or comprehensive campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Programs team to tailor proposals and cases for support that support CFCC financial priorities.
  • Collaboratively lead the development of a culture of philanthropy that is centered in CFCC’s values, equity and inclusion framework and community.
  • Play a leadership role in the evolution of CFCC’s culture and a work environment that is grounded in collaboration, respect, innovation and transparency.
Major Gift Fundraising and Campaign 
  • Develop sophisticated individual donor and foundation gifting strategies, including planned giving options and gifts of assets other than cash for high-net-worth donors.
  • Craft strategies to support a full gift cycle from prospect identification and research, through cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship.
  • Support the prospect management of individuals and foundations of the CEO and CDCO.
  • Manage an individual portfolio of prospects and/donors with a revenue target in the range of $250,000 to $1M, actively cultivating and soliciting gifts with annual revenue goals established with the CDCO.
  • Support the prospect management of individuals and foundations of the CEO and CDCO.
  • Develop highly customized strategies for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of high-capacity individual and foundation prospects and donors.
  • Working collaboratively with the CEO and CDCO, support current and/or future campaign volunteers and committees; ensure campaign efforts align or augment with annual fundraising strategies.
Team & Portfolio Management 
  • Foster a more cohesive Development and Communications department by encouraging and supporting cross team collaboration;
  • Mentor and motivate a team of fundraising professionals, holding accountability for the team’s annual revenue goal, in alignment with annual operational and strategic plan.
  • Strategic oversight and management of donor engagement, stewardship and communications to support moves management and portfolio goals.
  • Work collaboratively and closely across departments to leverage colleague’s expertise and advance philanthropic opportunities. Foster a culture of teamwork and synergy across departments to maximize impact.
  • Lead and champion the management of the donor database (prospect and existing donors), ensuring they are up to date, complete and accurate.
Qualifications (Experience, Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) 
Required:
  • Over 7 years of relevant fundraising experience; minimum of 5 years leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading and growing an individual and foundation major gifts program with direct revenue accountability
  • Strong relationship building and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated track record of securing commitments greater than $250K
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven people leadership and management experience with staff and senior volunteers
  • Demonstrated financial literacy with budgeting and reporting
  • Experience with case for support and proposal development
  • Understanding of database management and prospect management systems to support major gift fundraising. Experience with Salesforce is an asset.
  • Track record of collaborating with internal and external stakeholders toward shared goals
  • Knowledge of the Canadian charitable sector, including fundraising best practices and emerging trends, and a demonstrated commitment to professional growth
Preferred:
  • Fundraising education an asset
  • Experience with capital or comprehensive campaigns an asset
  • Background in social change philanthropy an asset
