One of the fastest growing branches of CMHA, the Canadian Mental Health Association York Region and South Simcoe (CMHA-YRSS) provides 30+ mental health and addiction programs to adults, youth (age 12+), family caregivers, local businesses and community organizations. Salary: The starting salary for this role is between $54,800.00 – $58,700 per annum, depending on experience of candidate.

Location: The Hybrid Work Plan developed for this role presently requires this position to work in a combination of work from home and work on site with equipment provided by CMHA.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to discuss this arrangement with the program manager and will work from the Newmarket Office located at 1101 Nicholson Rd, Unit 5, Newmarket, Ontario on the days of on-site work. The successful candidate may be required to travel within York Region & South Simcoe for staff training or meetings .

 Job Profile:

The Donor Engagement Officer is a full-time position that is responsible for raising funds through a diverse portfolio of revenue streams including direct response, monthly/recurring giving programs, signature and community events, peer-to-peer giving, community giving, gaming, and in memory/in honour programs to acquire, retain, and upgrade annual donors. The position is also responsible for feeding the major and planned giving pipelines. The Donor Engagement Officer will work closely with the Senior Director, Philanthropy to refine and execute an ongoing and meaningful donor stewardship and recognition program.

  • Provide leadership and develop strategy for increasing CMHA YRSS financial resources through a comprehensive annual giving program to advance the strategic goals of the organization
  • Develop annual giving plans and calendars
  • Develop data-based goals and budgets, and prepare regular reports on progress
  • Design and manage a comprehensive direct response program
  • Analyze annual giving results to sharpen approach and increase return on investment
  • Promote staff giving/engagement, monthly giving, gifts in memory/in honour, attracting and retaining new donors, and track and report program results
  • Assess needs and explore new and creative methods to acquire and retain donors, keeping abreast of emerging trends
  • Ensure a strong stewardship program for annual donors is in place to strengthen and build connections and future revenue initiatives
  • Manage all aspects of Mental Health in Motion, the signature annual fundraising event for CMHA YRSS
  • Oversee, manage, and grow a portfolio of Community Engagement Fundraising initiatives to increase revenue, build relationships, and increase CMHA YRSS awareness in York Region and South Simcoe communities
  • Provide support to 3rd Party/Community events and initiatives
  • Attend 3rd Party events, community event or activities, cheque presentations, speaking events, and other events on behalf of CMHA YRSS
  • Project on-site support at CMHA YRSS fundraising events or community partner events (as required)
  • Research, solicit or co-solicit community partners and sponsorship opportunities
  • Ensure constituent records are up-to-date and activity is promptly and accurately recorded in the CRM
  • Create and/or support the development of portfolio-related collateral materials
  • Prepare reports, presentations, briefs
  • Collaborate in the annual business planning processes, goal setting and budget setting
  • Assist with financial reporting, government and funder reports and tracking donor commitments
  • Monitor and research the giving landscape for new fundraising or engagement opportunities and industry best practices to grow the donor pipeline
  • Develop and coordinate efforts to renew grants, sponsors, donors, and service partners
  • Collaborate with appropriate teams across the organization to foster a culture of philanthropy, learning, development and teamwork

In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is also expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication and team building, demonstrate effectiveness in working in a collaborative environment, and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building relationships.

Requirements:

  • University degree, college diploma in Fundraising/Non-Profit Management or related discipline (events, sales, marketing) or a combination of relevant experience 2+ years or more within a charitable/not-for-profit organization is required
  • Experience in the charitable/not-for-profit sector required
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience and demonstrated success in annual giving programs, direct response/direct mail, online fundraising and events
  • Minimum 1+ year experience with CRM database, ideally with Blackbaud databases (E-Tapestry, Raiser’s Edge, RENXT)
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Understanding of CRA receipting rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of PIPEDA regulations
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices
  • Proven communications skills including written, interpersonal, organizations, negotiation and oral/presentation skills needed
  • Confident, friendly, professional, and comfortable with cold calling
  • Experience managing projects with tight time lines and firm deadlines
  • Ability to read and understand contracts and agreements
  • Understanding of finance, budgeting and event management
  • Ability to read and understand financial statements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to develop and coordinate funding proposals and applications
  • Demonstrated experience in computer programs, donor databases and social media platforms such as Raisers Edge, MailChimp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Zoom
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a small team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external clients and volunteers
  • Ability to work efficiently under time pressures while managing a diverse range of assignments and projects where accuracy and attentional to detail are vital
  • Commitment to providing strong customer service to donors, fundraising staff, volunteers, and key stakeholders
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check)
