Executive Director

POSITION STATUS: Full-Time Permanent

We Care is the Foodservice and Hospitality Industry’s Charity of Choice, committed to helping kids realize their full potential. Through a united effort from our supporters in a variety of fundraising events and initiatives, we seek to make a difference by raising funds to send kids with disABILITIES to accessible Easter Seals summer camps across Canada.
An organizational leadership role overseeing all aspects of operations including fostering membership relations and fundraising, as well as managing human and financial resources. This role implements the strategic plan which supports the overall mission of the organization and operations of the Board.
Leadership & Relationship Management
• Serve as the Executive Director and leader responsible for all aspects of the organization’s operations and development
• Provide operational and creative leadership to the staff, Board of Directors, and the membership
• Articulate and implement a shared vision and programs that reflect the unique mission of the organization and its potential impact within its stakeholders
• Set and advance a positive, success-oriented culture within the organization
• Ensure that We Care’s vision, mission, and core values are evident and consistent in every aspect of the organization, including its staff and programs
• In conjunction with the Board of Directors and staff, be responsible for communications regarding We Care’s vision, mission, core values, programs, challenges, and achievements
• Play an active role in the creation of effective and exciting marketing materials and program guides
• Maintain a focus on proactive planning that will identify and take advantage of, or respond to the needs of We Care’s volunteers and member sponsors
• Effectively manage any crisis that might arise, using superior decision-making skills, in consultation with Board leadership and staff
• Maintain open lines of communication with the Board, staff, members, and stakeholders
• Manage the recruitment of future We Care ambassadors
• Oversee the execution and implementation of the Bruce Curtis We Care Ambassador scholarship program
• Create and conduct performance reviews in conjunction with staff and/or provide feedback on performance of others
• Serve as a key spokesperson and representative for We Care at all necessary meetings and events
• Maintain existing member sponsors and build new member sponsors through the prospect list developed with the Board of Directors
• Maintain a proactive approach in seeking and raising funds through relationship building with, and cultivation and stewardship of, current and prospective member donors
• Maintain and grow relationships with Easter Seals Canada and their provincial partners
Finance, Administration and Operations
• Overall responsibility for fiscal management, systems, and accurate reporting for We Care Inc. and the We Care Foundation
• In conjunction with the Board Treasurer, regularly evaluate the management and status of the organization’s financial resources and procedures as well as its fundraising budget
• Ensure that there is regular reporting to the Board and the appropriate event and project committees on all issues related to the organization
• Create and direct the Board and staff processes for developing We Care’s annual budget, annual reports, and audits
Fundraising & Program Development
• Assist staff in enhancing current fundraising efforts
• Play a leadership and strategic role in marketing and fundraising campaign efforts including events, member sponsor donor cultivation, and solicitation
• Work closely with the Board leadership, staff, and member sponsors on various campaigns to raise necessary funds for enabling We Care to meet the current and anticipated future needs of the Easter Seals kids attending summer camps
• Work with Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to develop sustainable revenue and funding opportunities to support new initiatives and program development
• Support in the development, planning, execution, and wrap up of special events
• Research, grow, and improve current events and initiatives
• Manage event budgets including registration, invoicing, and expense processing
• Lead staff in setting goals about vision and programs in striving for program creativity and excellence
• Communicate regularly with volunteers to seek collaboration and partnerships in program development
• Work with staff and volunteers to monitor program costs and effectiveness; Institute consistent methods of program evaluation that are appropriate to the mission of each activity
• Ensure that events and programs are aligned with We Care’s mission and strategic plan
• Liaise with We Care Ambassadors related to assigned events and third-party events with respect to scheduling, speeches, and special instructions as required
• Attend all fundraising and special events, as well as trade shows as required
• Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• University Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent professional experience
• 10 years of management experience overseeing a team or function
• 5 years event management experience (preferably in a non-profit environment) or equivalent professional experience
• Outstanding organizational, time management, negotiation, and multi-tasking skills
• Ability to relate well with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders
• Ability to work well under pressure and in high stress situations
• Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to speak publicly and in front of large groups
• Excellent interpersonal, networking, and strategic relationship building skills to exert influence and develop constructive working relationships with a wide variety of persons and organizations
• Ability to work independently and co-operatively on a team
• Highly energetic, results-oriented, and creative thinker with an entrepreneurial spirit
• High integrity and highly ethical, as well as business savvy
• Ability to make and implement difficult decisions
• Strong sense of creativity and out of the box thinking
• Ability to lead a team in the development and implementation of on-brand marketing materials and campaigns
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing circumstances, with on-the-fly thinking
• Tech-savvy, with an ability to learn new web/computer applications
• Functional knowledge in the following programs/applications:
o Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
o Google (Gmail, Drive, Forms, Sheets, etc.)
o Accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks)
o CRM programs (e.g. Kindful)
• Knowledge in the following are considered an asset:
o Payment systems (e.g. Square)
o Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
o Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
o Word Press and/or HTML
o Electronic bidding systems (e.g. Handbid)
o Oral and written French language
o Experience in the hospitality and not for profit sectors
Requirements
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and the use of an appropriately insured reliable vehicle (vehicle will often be used for picking up and dropping off event materials)
• Ability to drive a large truck or rental van
• Periodic evening and weekend work, as required
• Physical effort and stamina required for lifting, loading/unloading vehicles, and event set up
• Some overnight, out-of-town/province travel required
