We are currently recruiting for a dynamic, experienced major gift fundraiser looking for a challenge and a chance to become part of HSC history.
The coming year brings incredible excitement and optimism as HSC continues to pursue the goals outlined in our Strategic Plan and advance our position as a leader in independent education in Canada. This strategic framework operates around four central and interlocking themes that support our joyful, engaged and inclusive community: personalized learning; purposeful and sustainable learning environments; resilience and wellbeing; and a whole College– inclusive and connected.
We are also at the initial stages of an ambitious fundraising campaign to realize the College’s Campus Master Plan – a development plan that will transform our physical campus and allow us to continue delivering on the elements of our Strategic Plan.
We are seeking a hands-on leader to direct the overall fundraising efforts for the College with a focus on major gifts in support of the various phases of the project. The position will be supported by a talented team of Advancement and Communications professionals to support and achieve the overall fundraising and strategic advancement goals.
The Executive Director will serve as the leader of the College’s capital campaign. Phase I of the project is at the initial stages with a multimillion-dollar campaign, which will see a reinvestment in our current facilities, adding approximately 50,000 square feet of space with a new Middle School for the College.
As the Executive Director, you will be part of a dynamic leadership team reporting to the Head of College. You will have one direct report, a Director of Advancement and Communications, supported by a team of dedicated and talented fundraising and communications professionals. You will work closely with the Head of College, Board of Trustees, Principals, campaign volunteers, faculty and staff to meet the College’s fundraising goals.
The Executive Director will focus on major gifts but oversee the overall portfolio, including cultivation and fundraising initiatives, annual and planned giving, communications, events, alumni relations and archives.
Specific areas of responsibility will include:Campaign Direction: Leads the College through the fundraising campaign and develops campaign strategies, plans, systems, processes and procedures. Works with communications to develop campaign materials. Directs and participates in the recruitment of campaign leaders and acts as primary contact for campaign leadership.
Major Gifts: Responsible for establishing and managing a major gifts portfolio for the College. At least 40% of the time during the campaign, the incumbent visits to engage donors in HSC’s vision and goals. Supports the vision of the Head of College and optimizes their ability to cultivate and solicit major gifts.
Long-term Fundraising: Directs all other fundraising initiatives through the Director of Advancement and Communications that further advances HSC. These include donor stewardship, alumni relations, planned and annual giving campaigns, communications and cultivation.
Team Management: Manages a Director of Advancement and Communications responsible for the team’s day-to-day functioning. The position ensures a highly qualified, motivated, and satisfied team that exhibits collaboration, innovation, effectiveness, and alignment with campaigns and results. Determines the overall objectives and fundraising targets for the advancement staff.
Volunteer and Leadership Team Members: Ensure volunteers and the College’s Leadership Team members are fully engaged, supported, guided and coached on fundraising initiatives.
The successful candidate will be a knowledgeable and experienced fundraising professional with excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration and organizational skills. Previous experience in educational advancement and communications, with some exposure to an independent school setting, professionally or personally, would be an asset.
