JOB PURPOSE
The Manager, Alumni & Donor Engagement is responsible and accountable for the success, design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive alumni relations program at The York School. Reporting to the Associate Director, Advancement, the Manager, Alumni Engagement & Stewardship will identify and engage alumni whose participation supports the priorities and mission of the school. They will manage the execution of events and follow-up of alumni relations activities and initiatives. The Manager, Alumni & Donor Engagement is also responsible for developing and leading donor engagement and stewardship programs for the school’s fundraising programs (Annual, Leadership, Major Gift, Alumni, Governance Volunteers, Staff, etc.), including oversight of donor lists for the Annual Impact Report and physical recognition (i.e. donor signage).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

In consultation with the Associate Director, Advancement and the Associate Head, External Relations, develop and implement The York School’s alumni relations strategy.

Ensure the effective communication of events and activities, encouraging involvement of target groups.

Be the main point of contact for The York School alumni providing professional expertise and guidance and ensuring alignment between the school and the alumni association objectives.

Develop strong student, alumni, staff (particularly with Principals and University Counselling), and volunteer networks to support and develop strategies for alumni relations activity.

Identify alumni with potential to support the school through volunteerism and/or through philanthropic support at the major gifts level.

Develop and manage both the Alumni Engagement and Door Engagement budgets, ensuring the programs have the available resources while monitoring expenses against those budgets.

Collaborate with Advancement team members to ensure stewardship and engagement strategies and activities are well aligned and appropriate to each giving program (Annual, Major Gifts, etc.) and are tracked in Raiser’s Edge.

In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team, lead the development of stewardship materials, such as impact reports (both custom and templated, including the annual Donor Impact Report) and stewardship presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

Post-secondary education in a related discipline.

5-7 years of experience in an advancement role, preferably in an independent school or university/college environment in an alumni relations and/or stewardship/engagement portfolio.

Previous experience developing and executing multi-faceted alumni relations and/or stewardship/engagement programs.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google, Raiser’s Edge.

Ability to project manage, multi-task and work toward deadlines in a hectic environment and to high performance standards.

Outstanding communication skills (oral and written) and presentation ability.

Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
