What you’ll be doing:

Are you an events professional who loves engaging donors, sponsors and volunteers in signature events and community fundraising initiatives?

SHN Foundation is seeking an enthusiastic professional to join our team in the new role of Manager, Community Engagement to work with key stakeholders in the Chinese community. The Manager will work with individual, corporate and community partners to support fundraising initiatives including the Chinese New Year Dinner, Chinese Radiothon and other community and cultivation events within the Chinese community.

This position requires strong fundraising, organization and logistics skills but more importantly, the ability to build and develop relationships with the community we serve – from donors to community leaders, staff and physicians to our volunteers. Our community and signature events support SHN Foundation’s goal to help raise awareness, share impact, strengthen our relationships across the Scarborough community all the while delivering significant undesignated revenue.

Reporting to the Vice President, Community Development & Partnerships, you will be reporting to and collaborating with the Director of Philanthropy to help drive revenue in the Chinese community by working on a portfolio of signature and community events.

This role will deliver successful events by overseeing fundraising and operational details, managing internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will lead the end-to-end oversight of signature and community events working collaboratively across the organization to ensure an integrated approach is applied throughout the supporter lifecycle. Key areas of focus will include strategy development, new revenue acquisition, growth of existing revenue as well as implementation and ongoing monitoring of results of the signature and community events.

 

Your responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of a portfolio of Chinese-focused events that will generate over $1.5M in revenue annually, including sponsorship and stewardship.
  • Oversee the logistical planning and execution of events within the portfolio in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships within the Chinese community to ensure the success and growth of existing events.
  • Serve as relationship manager and provide leadership to a wide variety of event stakeholders including event sponsors, committee members and event-day volunteers.
  • Work with Director of Philanthropy and Vice President, Community Development & Partnerships and stakeholders at all levels of the organization including Marketing & Communications, hospital staff, and senior leadership to help develop and share event content, including key messaging, fundraising toolkits, and event programming.
  • In partnership with the Director, Stewardship & Donor Engagement, develop plans to meaningfully thank our event supporters including participants, sponsors, donors and vendors.
  • Provide input to develop and manage annual departmental plans and budgets to support the strategic vision for the portfolio.
  • Work in partnership with the Marketing & Communications team to develop and execute on strategies that will help to increase awareness, educate our community and surpass fundraising goals.
  • Must be able to adapt to changing deadlines and readily able to prioritize competing issues and manage diverse projects at the same time.
  • Engage the Chinese community in all Community Development events and help identify event donors who may have the capacity to give a major gift (individually and/or corporately)
  • Work closely with the Vice President, Community Development & Partnerships to strategize and evaluate new event ideas or other opportunities to advance departmental goals.
  • Leverage SHN Foundation systems including Raiser’s Edge and AKA raisin to accurately track, pull and analyze reports to help inform our decision making. 

 

What you bring to the position:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in fundraising, events or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a fundraising event role – sponsorship experience and experience within healthcare environment an asset
  • Strong connections/relationships within the Chinese community
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communications skills in English and Chinese; Fluent Cantonese and Traditional Chinese are required; Mandarin skills are considered an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of and respect within the Chinese Canadian community organizations, corporations, local leaders, media and community events in the Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao and Mainland Chinese communities
  • Superior planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Experience leading volunteers in an event environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function collaboratively and provide oversight to other team members in a fast-paced environment.
  • Track record of achieving event-related fundraising targets.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge (CRM), AKA raisin (fundraising software), Asana (project management software) or similar systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • A passion for events, the Scarborough and Chinese communities as well as SHN Foundation’s mission considered a must.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to cultivate effective professional networks and relationships with community members, groups and businesses.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • A blend of professionalism and passion.
  • Valid G license and access to vehicle; Some travel to Scarborough and GTA required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to carry, load and offload physical collaterals
  • Interpreting and copywriting experiences are considered an asset
