The Manager, School Data & Analytics oversees and engages in the accurate collection, processing, modeling, and analysis of the school’s data systems. This includes managing and securing all data systems, developing database strategies, and planning for future data needs. The role involves ensuring data integrity and security, providing technical analysis, and supporting operational and academic data processes. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for the research, development, and implementation of new data systems and best practices in data management. The position will play an integral role in building a data-informed organization by conducting professional development and training for end-users where appropriate and by being involved in school-wide data projects.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Systems Management
- Manage all aspects of the College’s academic systems (ManageBac, Blackbaud Education Management, BrightSpace) in conjunction with teams across the College;
- Coordinate and manage the data flows and integrations across the College’s connected systems (Blackbaud APIs, grade imports, etc);
- Lead the annual summer rollover processes for data systems , including the development of timelines, in conjunction with the Associate Director, Information & Innovation;
- Work with College data managers and stewards to create and monitor school data integrity and consistency, ensuring processes in place for data validation are active and procedures are followed;
- Investigate, design, implement, and support new data systems;
- Create and maintain required technical documentation and process manuals related to school data systems and core processes;
- Develop and maintain vendor relationships and remain current about new products or enhancements.
Collaboration & Leadership
- In the scope of data systems and processes, provide leadership and support for all departments across the College, including both academic teams and business operations;
- Lead internal professional development to support data literary skills within the organization as well as building data analyst techniques/training for school leaders and faculty and staff to support the College’s vision of becoming a data-informed organization;
- Provide data systems technical support and liaise with vendors when required or if escalation is necessary;
- Work with College leadership to determine future data system and analytics needs.
Data Reporting & Analytics
- Lead the ongoing implementation and support of school-wide data tools, such as surveying tools, internal visualization tools, standardized test results and visualizations with 3rd parties;
- Provide data extractions as needed for operational processes, business intelligence and data analysis projects;
- Work with the academic and operational leaders to develop dashboards in support of both key operational visualizations and strategic goals.
Data Governance & Security
- Work with the Executive Director, Information & Innovation to ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation, Ministry of Education and school policies in the area of privacy and information systems, including the management, documentation and review of user access levels and permissions for core data systems;
- Play an active role in the management and regular review of the College’s Data Recovery Disaster Plans;
- Play an active role in the College’s Data Governance team, including the creation and maintenance of data inventories, data maps, and other strategic governance documentation and processes;
- Manage and maintain system backups and verify backup validity in conjunction with third-party support teams;
- Other: Be a mentor for an IB continuum project (Personal Project, PYP Exhibition or Extended Essay);
Job Requirements
Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science, data analytics, information technology or a related field required;
- At least three years of experience in computer science, data analytics, information technology or a related field;
- Experience in a K-12 educational environment;
- Expertise working with Blackbaud systems (Blackbaud Education Management, Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, BBMS etc);
- Experience using reporting tools such as Google Looker, PowerBI, and Power Automate;
- Expert user of spreadsheet tools such as Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel;
- Experience developing and monitoring data interfaces, data transfers and data manipulation;
- Experience with data validation, importing, and exporting of data;
- Technical knowledge with SQL server maintenance and backup;
