The Position

The Manager of Direct Marketing (Annual Giving)’s purpose at the Foundation is to successfully grow and retain the direct marketing portfolio. Annual Giving is a critical source of undesignated income for the Foundation. By fostering relationships with donors who give up to $5,000 annually, the Manager, Direct Marketing also helps develop a pipeline of potential donors for the Foundation’s Major Gifts and Planned Giving teams, cultivating donor loyalty across all segments and monthly giving.

This position will lead planning, strategy, and oversight of our direct marketing/annual giving programs, including: Direct Mail, Patient Mail, Online Giving (including Giving Tuesday and End-of-Year Campaigns), Lottery, Memorials, Hospital Family Giving, and Southlake Heroes/Grateful Patient Giving programs. This role requires a strategic, innovative thinker and leader with proven experience growing revenue through retention and acquiring new donors, through multi-channel acquisition, solicitation, and stewardship, as well as tactical executor who can use their technical skills and experience to complete tasks related to the function of the DM portfolio.  The candidate should bring strong writing, project management and organizational skills, and the ability to pull and analyze data from a variety of sources (including: Raiser’s Edge, Luminate and Google Analytics) to drive decision-making throughout the year.

This role also manages and supports one direct report – the Officer, Annual Giving.  Together, they will execute the annual operating plan of the Direct Marketing (aka Annual Giving) portfolio to achieve revenue and operating goals.

About the Marketing & Communications Team

The Marketing & Communications Team drives brand development and omni-channel alignment. This includes developing an integrated strategy based on a broad strategic brand, in alignment with Southlake, to support community engagement and fundraising activities foundation-wide. Through the creation of high quality content and data-driven strategies, the MarComm Team helps convert engagement in action, inspiring donors to give and demonstrating their impact. The team also provides creative and digital services to support fundraising and community giving programs and is responsible for the Foundation’s media/public relations. The Team is responsible for annual direct marketing and fundraising, with a view to growth (in both donors and revenue) within the programs and identification of potential major and planned giving donors to add to the Foundation’s pipeline for cultivation and stewardship to optimize growth.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A University Degree, College Diploma, or a combination of comparable skills and experience
  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressive fundraising experience in a non-profit environment with a focus on the management of an annual giving/direct marketing program and experience in digital and direct mail, with a track record of annual fund growth and success
  • Advanced knowledge, experience, and use (4 years minimum) of Raiser’s Edge with the ability to: create/amend queries, pull lists, export lists, upload lists, and manage/amend donor records
  • Past supervisory experience an asset
  • Experience using Luminate with the ability to pull relevant data for tracking/reporting
  • Experience working with a Direct Marketing Agency partner is an asset
  • Exemplary project management and organizational skills with a focus on attention to detail
  • Deadline and measurable results-oriented
  • Knowledge of non-profit/annual giving best practices and a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning in your field

  • Demonstrated ability to conceive and implement successful list-building strategies
  • Data savvy with the ability to build and maintain tracking reports/dashboards to analyze data, extract meaningful insights and KPI analysis, and make recommendations throughout the year to ensure program success

  • Ability to work with senior leaders, physicians, etc., effectively and professionally
  • Demonstrates cross-functional collaboration in all aspects of your work
  • Proven ability to create, track budgets to monitor progress to plan to attain financial and program goals within prescribed timelines
  • Proven ability to exercise diplomacy and good judgment
  • Proficient in the use of all corporate productivity tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • CFRE is an asset (or other related designations).

As the successful candidate you must have a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
