These services are provided at no cost to residents and families.

Hill House has embarked on a $13 million capital campaign to build a new 12-bedroom hospice. We expect to have a new building in 2027.

Job Purpose

As the Manager, Events & Community Engagement, you will assume a central position of responsibility within our organization, overseeing various aspects of event and community engagement management at Hill House Hospice. Your core duties will involve: orchestrating the seamless execution of our flagship event, Walk for Hill House Hospice; serving as the primary liaison for third-party events and community engagement events in the community; coordinating Hill House volunteer luncheons and staff social gatherings; and initiating new stewardship events tailored for our Capital Campaign and Annual Giving contributors. Your primary objective will be to ensure the effectiveness of these event-based fundraising and stewardship endeavors, all the while nurturing favorable relationships with corporate affiliates, participants, donors, volunteers, and our internal team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Planning and Collaboration:
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Development to develop comprehensive event business plans, budgets, strategies, and tactics aligned with Hill House Hospice’s overarching fundraising and stewardship objectives, including Signature Events, Third-Party, Capital Campaign events, Annual Giving Events.
  • Ability to strategically increase revenue streams through innovative event concepts, targeted donor engagement strategies, and effective sponsorship solicitation efforts.
  • Skilled in minimizing costs through meticulous budget management, resource optimization, and creative problem-solving, ensuring that fundraising efforts yield optimal returns on investment.
  • Proactive in seeking out new ideas and trends in event management, continuously exploring innovative approaches to enhance fundraising effectiveness, engage donors, and elevate the overall event experience.
  1. Leadership in Event Coordination:
  • Assume a leadership role in coordinating and facilitating fundraising and stewardship activities, emphasizing the management of flagship events like the Walk for Hill House Hospice, third-party events, staff/volunteer engagements, community engagements and Capital Campaign donor stewardship initiatives.
  • Proficiency in sourcing and negotiating contracts with vendors, suppliers, and sponsors to secure cost-effective resources and maximize fundraising potential.
  1. Logistics Planning and Execution Support:
  • Develop critical paths, marketing/social media strategies, speaking notes, run sheets, and source event-related merchandise and promotional materials to ensure seamless execution of events.
  • Adept at leveraging technology and digital platforms to enhance event marketing, ticket sales, and donor outreach, driving increased participation and revenue generation.
  1. Corporate Engagement and Sponsorship:
  • Strategically focus on soliciting corporate prospects for sponsorship and support, maximizing fundraising potential and enhancing corporate partnerships.
  1. Community Relationship Management:
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships within the local community and businesses, leveraging existing connections and establishing new partnerships to optimize fundraising outcomes, increase participation levels, and enhance Hill House’s visibility.
  1. Volunteer Coordination and Engagement:
  • Work closely with volunteers to represent Hill House effectively at all events, fostering awareness, and nurturing meaningful relationships.
  1. Reporting and Analysis:
  • Generate comprehensive reports on events and financial contributions, providing insights to inform future planning and decision-making.
  1. Compliance and Confidentiality:
  • Ensure adherence to CRA guidelines and maintain strict confidentiality protocols to safeguard donor information and uphold compliance with relevant data protection regulations.

Qualifications, Abilities, and Assets

  • Post-secondary education in a related field or additional coursework/certification in fundraising event management or related experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful event planning and execution, particularly in managing high-profile fundraising events, including sporting events, third-party collaborations and/or stewardship and engagement events.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards in fundraising practices and adherence to relevant data protection and Canada Revenue Agency regulations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to make fundraising asks, cultivate and maintain relationships with diverse external partners, stakeholders, and corporate prospects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Exemplary organizational abilities and an unwavering attention to detail essential for orchestrating flawless event logistics and operations.
  • Demonstrates proactive initiative and thrives in working independently, taking ownership of projects and initiatives from conception to completion.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and passionately convey Hill House’s mission and objectives.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, adept at navigating challenges on the fly and implementing effective solutions under pressure.
  • Experience with advanced fundraising software such as DonorPerfect (CRM) and AKA Raisin is highly desirable, enabling efficient donor management and fundraising optimization.
  • Superior organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail to ensure the integrity of donor information and financial records.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, for generating reports, presentations, and data analysis.
  • Possession of a valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle, as some travel is required for attending events and meetings.
  • Willingness to work some weekends and evenings as necessary to accommodate event schedules and meet organizational needs.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with some flexibility to work from home.
  • As events and engagements may fall on the weekend, working on the weekends may be required from time to time.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment located in the basement at Hill House Hospice.
  • Shared office space requires the ability to focus with possible distractions and work effectively with periodic interruptions.
