JOB PURPOSE
The Manager, Major Gifts is responsible for the overall management of the major gifts programme, with a focus on donor relationship management. Reporting to the Associate Director, Advancement, the Manager, Major Gifts will  lead and manage a portfolio of between 75 to 100 prospects. They will develop and implement plans for securing support from donors who can make major gifts, work closely with faculty and staff at the school to promote the acquisition of major gifts and manage major gift campaigns, the respective campaign teams, and volunteers. The Manager, Major Gifts will also work closely with the Associate Head, External Relations to ensure coordination of projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Qualify and cultivate prospective donors
  • Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of major gifts: determining ongoing relationships with prospect/donor; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation; assuring that solicitations are carried out
  • Develop and implement programs for major gifts, special gifts and campaign management, including, process documentation and improvement, and progress tracking
  • In collaboration with Marketing & Communications, oversee the development of written and presentation materials to engage donor prospects (e.g., proposals, pitch decks) and donors (e.g., customized and templated stewardship reports)
  • Work with other members of the Advancement team to ensure the effective coordination of all advancement programs and to reinforce the prospect relationship continuum
  • Participate, as required, in External Relations team efforts including, but no limited to, solicitation strategy teams for key prospects and internal planning
  • Keep current on programs and faculty, student initiatives at The York School
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Alumni Engagement and Stewardship, coordinate an effective program for recognition, involvement, and stewardship of major gift donors
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline
  • CFRE preferred
  • Five or more years of individual major gift fundraising, preferably in an independent school, university, hospital or major arts organization environment
  • Strong working knowledge of the process of securing major gifts from identifying and qualifying donors all the way through to cultivation and closing of donor gifts, stewardship and reporting
  • Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the school’s fundraising priorities through the development of excellent working relationships with all stakeholders in the community
  • Ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and alter strategic advancement plans
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical, presentation, and organization skills required
  • Knowledge of industry standard practises and laws governing charitable giving

  • Hybrid, remote work and on campus required
