Our mission is to care for our patients and their families when it matters most. Sunnybrook Foundation exists to raise awareness and funds required to ensure that Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre achieves its mission.
As the Foundation embarks upon a three-year growth plan, the Manager, Research will lead prospect and volunteer research, identification and qualification activities in support of Foundation’s fundraising initiatives. The incumbent will also work collaboratively with team members across the organization to identify areas for growth and develop strategies for process improvement. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of philanthropic giving and donor engagement principles, along with deep experience in traditional and emerging prospect identification and management processes. The ideal candidate for this role is an individual who is strategic, innovative, proactive, adaptive and possesses strong teamwork and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop Research team’s business plan and Key Performance Indicators
- Manage the team’s prospect and volunteer research, identification and qualification activities and ensure that quality and timelines are met
- Develop innovative strategies and engage in proactive research to support the Major Giving team in its donor renewal and prospecting efforts
- Support prospect management activities including donor migration opportunities across fundraising programs
- Collaborate with Foundation’s BI colleagues on the development of prospect analytics models to identify a robust pipeline across all fundraising programs
- Lead, coach and mentor direct reports to foster staff development and ensure optimal performances on the execution of all research related activities
- Maintain expertise on prospect research best practices and engage with the APRA community to stay up to date
- Manage the Research budget and make recommendations on relevant new resources when appropriate
- Represent the Research team in inter-departmental initiatives as appropriate
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Significant experience in prospect research in a philanthropic environment and strong understanding of traditional and emerging sources of information for identifying and qualifying major giving prospects
- Proven experience turning data and information into actionable insights that inform donor strategy
- Excellent knowledge of the prospect fundraising cycle
- Demonstrated independence and resourcefulness, while working within the framework of a team-oriented environment
- Adaptability, resourcefulness, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Proven track record in area of customer service
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to deal with confidential matters with tact and sensitivity
- Experience with due diligence assessment and/or duty of care risk assessment
Job Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree is required; specialty in Library and Information Science is considered an asset
- Minimum 5 years of prospect research and prospect management experience in a not-for-profit environment
- Proven ability to interpret financial, technical, and trade documents for the purpose of wealth assessment, including annual reports, SEDAR and SEDI
- Knowledge and experience with Raiser’s Edge
