Prospect Research Officer
Reporting to the Director of Research & Analytics, and working in collaboration with peer Research Officers, this role will serve as a strategic partner in advancing the fundraising efforts of the Major and Estate Giving team and the broader Foundation. This role will play a key role in proactively identifying, researching, evaluating, and providing recommendations on donors, volunteers, and prospects. By informing strategy and supporting relationship-building, this role plays a critical part in achieving The Princess Margaret’s fundraising goals.
You will:
- Conduct in-depth research on donors and prospects using internal information and external sources to provide strategic recommendations.
- Support effective engagement strategies by evaluating donor and prospect capacity, interests, relationships, and inclination to give.
- Develop detailed and confidential profiles, reports, and briefing materials for individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Lead the systematic and proactive identification of potential donors to build and maintain a robust pipeline for the Major and Estate Giving team.
- Identify and map relationships to uncover opportunities for engagement with key individuals, communities, and networks.
- Monitor and communicate news, events, and issues that impact PMCF’s fundraising strategies, the philanthropic environment, and stakeholders and volunteers.
- Support and improve the prospect clearance process to enhance collaboration across teams.
- Revise templates and compose documents (profiles, notes) using style and content appropriate to specific audiences.
- Respond promptly to research requests and deliver tailored insights to fundraising teams.
- Appropriately handle, sort and store donor and prospective donor information, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and privacy policies.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s or graduate degree in library science, information management, market research, or related field – or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in prospect research, fundraising, or a related discipline (healthcare fundraising or campaign experience is an asset).
- Proficiency with prospect research tools and databases (iWave, Wealth-X, RelSci), CRM platforms (Blackbaud CRM), and other online sources.
- Strong analytical skills to assess donor capacity, interests, and philanthropic alignment, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience synthesizing complex information from diverse sources into actionable insights that inform donor strategy and engagement.
- Excellent writing and editing skills for creating tailored profiles, reports, and briefing materials.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, work well with others, and manage competing deadlines and projects.
- Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
- A proactive, detail-oriented, and problem-solving mindset with a collaborative, team-first approach.
