About Hospice Palliative Care and Hill House Hospice:
Hill House is filled with a committed interdisciplinary group of professionals that provides hospice residence services, delivering compassionate palliative care within a comforting home-like setting. Hill House was the first hospice residence in York Region and the second to be built in the province of Ontario. Hill House is also a registered charity and are based in the heart of Richmond Hill. Since our founding in 1998, our goal is to lead by example, serving as a model for exemplary hospice residence care across York Region.

Position Summary:
The Senior Development Officer is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of major donors, cultivating relationships with prospective supporters, and securing significant philanthropic gifts in support of the organization’s mission and Capital Campaign that seeks to expand and rebuild from the current 3-bedroom hospice to a 12-bedroom hospice home. The role involves strategic donor engagement, stewardship, and collaboration with internal teams to meet fundraising goals and advance organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising Strategy & Execution:
    • Manage a portfolio of [75-100] major donors and prospects.
    • Working in partnership with the Executive Director, help lead special campaign initiatives.
    • Support Annual Giving strategies as required.
    • Develop and implement strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors giving $10,000+ annually and facilitate inclusion of planned giving initiatives in giving strategies.
  • Donor Cultivation & Stewardship:
    • Conduct personal visits, calls, and written communications with donors and prospects.
    • Prepare customized proposals, reports, and presentations.
    • Organize and attend donor events and engagement opportunities.
  • Collaboration & Leadership:
    • Work closely with senior leadership, board members, and program staff to align fundraising with organizational goals.
    • Mentor and support junior development staff as needed.
    • Ensure timely and accurate documentation in the donor database.
  • Reporting & Analytics:
    • Track donor engagement activity and progress toward revenue goals.
    • Provide regular reports and analysis to leadership on fundraising performance.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; or CFRE an asset.
  • 5 – 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in development/fundraising.
  • Proven success in securing major gifts and building long-term donor relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
  • Experience with CRM databases and Microsoft Office Suite an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of donor stewardship best practices.
  • Familiarity with grants, and campaign planning.
  • Experience in healthcare sector an asset
  • Familiarity with York Region an asset
