The Opportunity  In partnership with the Advancement Director, Community Events & Partnership Experience, KHP is seeking a Senior Development Officer (SDO) to join our team and drive fundraising events in Ontario.

The SDO will be responsible for the development and implementation of peer-to-peer events, partnership and third party events, and community fundraising, including activities related to corporate development. Events include Night to Nurture Gala, Kids Help Phone Golf Classic, and BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk.

The successful candidate will be an established fundraising professional, with diversified experience in events, sponsorship, and corporate partnerships. They will be a strong relationship builder with fundraising knowledge of the Ontario market.

They will be self-driven, independent and demonstrate excellent communication skills with both internal and external parties. They will work with senior executives and volunteers, and will be familiar with best-in-class volunteer management strategies.

The SDO, Partnership Events will join a dedicated team of 5 fundraising professionals – located in Toronto – including one direct report – as part of a 30 person Advancement Department.

What you’ll contribute:

As a strategic partner of the Advancement Director and in partnership with the department of Advancement, the SDO will:

  • Implement a fundraising event strategy that meets the objectives of sustaining and expanding existing event revenue sources. The plan includes budgets and stewardship of our signature event, BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk, third party events in Ontario, as well as two major partnership events, The Night to Nurture Gala and the Nestle Golf Classic.
  • In collaboration with the Advancement Director, lead portions of the development of annual and long-term community fundraising, event, corporate development plans, including an annual budget for these revenue streams in the context of organizational objectives.
  • Seek out local corporate prospects and strategic partners for the development of initiatives to create fundraising activities and increase revenue to generate awareness/visibility for Kids Help Phone through events, promotions, workplace giving, sponsorships, employee engagement, cause marketing, gifts in kind and leads for major gifts etc.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue potential and pipeline development within the community fundraising strategy.
  • Manage related volunteer event committees to ensure success.
  • Manage and support Kids Help Phone volunteer-led and/or organization-led events, and support community-based third party events by ensuring proper processes and guidelines are followed.
  • and/or arrange for and support an appropriate spokesperson for events/ corporate presentations.
  • Manage annual expense budgets for assigned projects and events.
  • Oversee the Development Officer, Partnership Events, in the planning of events and committee management; support of community volunteers, and corporate partners in all planning, fundraising initiatives and other opportunities.
  • Ensure all community-facing and fundraising activities are entered into the Raiser’s Edge database in a timely manner.
  • Working with administrative team members to follow all cash management, receipting and accounting procedures.
  • Work with corporate partners; identify leadership and other volunteers to support community events and fundraising.
  • Works with Advancement colleagues on the development of internal communications, briefing notes, research profiles, gift agreements, stewardship reports, and accountability reports.
  • Develops and maintains an in-depth knowledge of Funding Priorities and applies this knowledge in matching the interests and needs of prospects.
  • Promotes a culture of inclusion, with a commitment to the equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion initiatives designed to foster an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming work environment for individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities.

What You’ll Need:

  • University or college degree in fundraising or related experience in events, fundraising, or business development.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive Special Events or Fund Development  experience, with demonstrated success in soliciting Sponsorship.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), SharePoint, Raiser’s Edge or related fundraising database system.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with donors and prospect pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and motivate teams of volunteers.
  • Track record of great fundraising results.
  • Excellence in written and oral communication and ability to communicate key organizational messages to influence others for fundraising purposes.
  • Experience in engaging corporate partners and their employees in revenue development activities, initiating, supporting and strengthening alliances.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public presentations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to proofread and edit documents.
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills to liaise with senior management, staff, and donors.
  • Strong organizational skills to determine work priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and work in a team-based environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel within Ontario.
  • Ability to transport items weighing up to 50lbs to the event site and work outdoor events.
  • Fluency in French considered a strong asset.
