Located within Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Bayview Avenue in Toronto, the Foundation consists of more than 75 professionals and support staff who work in close partnership with our Hospital colleagues. With ambitious goals ahead, the Foundation is committed to continuing to grow our results and impact as we help Sunnybrook to raise sights, uncover new possibilities, develop talent, and deliver exceptional care.
Last year, thanks to the commitment of our dedicated volunteers, donors, and staff, we raised more than $72 million to support Sunnybrook’s priorities and we are also fortunate to have an endowment fund of more than $90 million that helps to support Sunnybrook’s mission.
Position Description
The Senior Manager is a senior and passionate leader who will be a leading force in the continued growth and development of Sunnybrook Foundation’s event portfolio. They must possess excellent leadership and project management skills, be able to work collaboratively and have a strong service-oriented mindset.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide strategic leadership, direction and mentorship to the team for the creation and execution of all events ensuring they meet their objectives.
- Manage a team of five direct reports, including provision of performance management, coaching, fostering staff development and ensuring the individuals on your team are thriving in their own roles.
- Manage assigned budgets; prioritize resources; operate within allocated funds, budget constraints, established guidelines and Foundation policy, notifying the Director of variances and adjusting strategies as required.
- Continually review event processes and resources; making strategic, operational and creative improvements.
- Working with the team, develop, execute and evaluate annual event plans for community fundraising events, signature and partnership events identifying opportunities to increase revenue and participant experience
- In collaboration with the Director, develop and execute an annual sponsorship strategy in support of all applicable events.
- Lead retention strategies of large community events and supervise retention of all community events in conjunction with the senior officer.
- Oversee the design and development of collateral in conjunction with internal and external partners to support community events for use by organizers to amplify and elevate the donor experience with Sunnybrook Foundation, as well as expand audience reach
- Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop event project plans
- Engage event committee volunteers by building their commitment over the longer term, ensuring that the skills, capabilities and strengths of volunteers and volunteer leaders are recognized, developed and maximized within the Foundation’s goals and priorities
- Manage and monitor the event team’s usage of Raiser’s Edge ensuring accuracy and integrity of data
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with vendors and contractors.

- Analytical, strategic and creative thinker, and constant learner who stays on top of event fundraising strategies.
- Highly proactive self-starter who takes initiative and thinks ahead while managing day-to-day needs of the team/event portfolio
- Ability to work under pressure, handle competing deadlines, respond promptly to donor/volunteer requests
- Strong judgment skills, experience identifying and anticipating issues
- Ability to maintain a positive, flexible and responsive attitude, professional image and team – oriented style
- Embraces planning, attention to detail and managing multiple priorities
- Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast pace, and deadline driven environment in an organized and professional manner
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills – presents ideas clearly and concisely
- Experience being an effective leader/manager while also willing to roll up sleeves and be an active contributor
- Ability and openness to adapt to a changing environment
Job requirements:
- Minimum college and/or university degree or equivalent
- Minimum 7 years professional and progressive experience in executing large events, acquiring sponsorships, fundraising and development of third party event programs
- Experience working with volunteer committees, understanding the importance of effective volunteer relations
- Experience in the healthcare sector an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Understanding and experience of fundraising systems – Raiser’s Edge, Convio/Team Raiser, Artez, Luminate an asset
- Understanding of Canada Revenue Agency Guidelines
