Position Description
The Sr. Officer plays a vital role as a member of a highly collaborative team to drive the continued growth of Sunnybrook Foundation. Reporting to the Manager, Community Giving the Sr. Officer will manage and grow the segment of donors in the mid-level range ($1,000 – $24,999 annually).
Working in collaboration with the broader foundation team, this position will manage the strategic and personalized communications outreach with mid-level donors and support mass strategies for mid-level giving with the primary goals of retaining and upgrading these donors to achieve the portfolio’s fundraising goals.
This position works collaboratively with cross-functional teams and is responsible for portfolio revenue projections, managing costs and following Sunnybrook Foundation’s policies and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive action plan and strategies to cultivate, solicit, and upgrade mid-level donors, creating a seamless and rewarding donor experience
- Personally cultivate, steward and solicit mid-level donors and prospects with a goal of retaining and upgrading their gifts through email, personal notes, calls and in-person meetings
- Collaborates within the community giving team on the strategy and plan for solicitation, stewardship, and cultivation to engage and grow the mid-level donor segment including highly personalized direct marketing efforts
- Meets and exceeds metrics tied to, revenue, retention, upgrades, activities/moves and meaningful cultivation
- Develops and implements strategies that nurture donor loyalty and foster relationships with the organization
- Responsible for tracking mid-level giving prospects and donors; documenting their cultivation and solicitation activities in Raiser’s Edge
- Work closely with other teams to ensure alignment and integration of donor goals and strategies to maximize donor engagement and advancement opportunities
- Understand the Sunnybrook brand, strategic direction of the Foundation and hospital priorities
- Contributes to development of communication materials, including publications, used in the cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement and stewardship of mid-level gift prospects
- Work with the Research and Philanthropy teams to identify and hand off higher capacity major gift and donor prospects for additional cultivation
- Collaborate with the Planned Giving team to develop and execute lead generation strategies
- Take the lead on identifying potential prospects for matching gifts for community giving campaigns
- Attends donor events as necessary
- Perform other duties as needed
Our successful candidate will have:
- Progressive gift officer experience preferred, with demonstrated success in developing strategies for personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations, demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy and maintains confidentiality without exception
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain successful relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to influence, inspire and engage key stakeholders internally and externally
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to understand donor needs and think strategically about donor engagement
- A strong understanding of donor stewardship and its importance in strengthening and deepening donor relationships
- Highly organized and flexible with the ability to work independently and as part of a team; manage multiple priorities, tasks and relationships in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to search out answers, troubleshoot and problem solve independently using sound judgement and ability to recognize when others need to be involved in activities or decisions
- Strong project management skills and ability to set priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Experience managing and being accountable for budgets, fundraising targets and donor relationships
Job Requirements:
- Minimum college or university degree or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience in a fundraising position or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is an asset
- Ability to effectively use MS Office suite software at an intermediate level
