Reporting to the National Director of Leadership Giving and Corporate Partnerships, the Specialist, Individual Giving is responsible for the management of the Mid-Level, Major or Planned gifts from individuals. The Specialist, Individual Giving contributes to meeting the donor dollar targets from mid-level individuals, major gift donors and planned giving donors and executes programs to achieve these goals. To further the Individual Giving portfolio, the Specialist, Individual Giving will work with the National Director of Leadership Giving & Corporate Partnerships to implement the Individual Giving Plan.


  • Participate in the implementation of strategic and operational plans
  • Build and manage a portfolio of 200+ relationships with prospects and donors, including individuals of mid-level giving capacity
  • Develop and execute donor cultivation plans, solicitation strategies and stewardship journeys for gifts of $500 – $4,999
  •  Work with the National Director to achieve targeted results and coordinate all program activities in collaboration with philanthropy department and marketing teams
  • Regular analysis and reports of MODC database to identify planned giving prospects for cultivation
  • Ensure donors receive appropriate communication re: impact of donation and recognition is as personalized as possible
  • Research prospects from both internal database and from externally
  • Manage the input of various program lists into the database, overseeing record creation and monitoring coding and selection criteria
  • Ensure standards for accurate creation of mid-level, major gifts and planned giving donor records, input of donations and receipt production are followed
  • Responsible for coding donor  records to permit inclusion or exclusion in direct mail packages as required, including type, attributes and constituency codes
  • Coordinate events to engage and recognize major donors
  • Receive and handle customer service  requests from the general public regarding receipts, direct marketing exclusion and other fundraising/development questions
  • Receive and handle requests as needed along with other Philanthropy staff regarding receipts, donations and fundraising/ development programs
  • Stay current with industry trends and use best practices in major gifts and planned giving

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree and a post graduate fund development diploma or certificate
  • 3 – 5 years of fund development experience
  • Previous experience with a non-profit organization
  • Experience with fundraising database software (e.g. Cornerstone, Raiser Edge, etc.)
  • Skilled in MS Office applications, including spreadsheets and databases
  • Familiarity with research tools and practices aimed at identifying and “qualifying” major corporate and personal donors
  • Strategic thinker, with a broad and creative approach to maximize on the resources and positioning of the agency, to formulate and support “asks” for major gifts
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  • Analytical skills to review prospect profiles and to develop a strategy to maximize the potential for donation by that individual
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work with sensitive, confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and/or supervise negotiation process for obtaining commitments from major gift and planned gift donors
  • Self-motivated to achieve results and an effective team player
  • Proven ability to achieve expected goals within restricted time frames

Salary Range: $56K – $68k
