The Volunteer and Gift-In-Kind Officer is responsible for the recruitment, orientation, coordination, support and recognition of Association volunteers. The position also solicits and distributes in-kind donations and provides support to the Philanthropy department in the gift administration process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports professional Association-wide volunteer practices and materials (e.g. volunteer manual) and works with program staff to develop program-specific materials as needed;
  • Ensures and conducts appropriate recruitment, orientation, training and evaluation of event and administrative volunteers;
  • Liaises with the program staff as appropriate and maintains good relationships with all Association staff;
  • Responds to queries about volunteer opportunities from the general public;
  • Coordinates the volunteer program in support of the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards;
  • Liaises with external organizational contacts regarding in-kind donations, acts as first point of contact within Association for in-kind donors and responsible for cultivating and maintaining this key relationship;
  • Researches prospective in-kind donors and solicits donations based on assessed needs within YWCA Toronto programs;
  • Organizes volunteer information effectively, coordinating and tracking volunteer related data (i.e. contact information, hours of service) and Association wide volunteer statistics in a timely manner;
  • Assists Database Officer in the accurate processing of donations and prepares thank you letters and tax receipts in accordance with the Canada Revenue Agency guidelines;
  • Places and supervises students and volunteers as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth knowledge of an academic or technical discipline normally acquired through completion of a community college diploma. A certificate or diploma in Volunteer Management preferred. (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
  • 3 to 5 years directly related experience. Work involves application of theoretical knowledge to job-related problems;
  • Experience co-ordinating an effective volunteer program, including the recruitment, orientation and recognition of volunteers is essential;
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to work well with people from all walks of life;
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization;
  • Knowledge of the issues for services to women, girls and gender diverse people;
  • Superior organizational and administrative skills, as well as a proven ability to work to deadlines;
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written;
  • Computer competency in word processing, data entry, spreadsheets and database management software. Working knowledge of fundraising software an asset (Raiser’s Edge preferred);
  • This position requires occasional lifting and incumbent must be able to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 20 lbs.

 

Note: Restriction on vacation during key events and donor engagement periods.
