Storytelling is at the core of our sector, and telling stories authentically is the key to making our sector thrive.

In honour of Black History Month, we cordially invite you to a special screening of two captivating short films by emerging Black directors from the Greater Toronto area. Join us and the films’ directors for the insightful and brave discussion that will follow each film, where the objective is to transform perspectives about art, community, and authentic voices. The discussion will also ask us to ponder on who’s telling the story, and how the story is being told.

  • MOVEMENT by Uranranebi (Ebi) Agbeyegbe
  • MENGEDEGNA by Bethlehem Paulos

The selected films tell stories of mental health, Black identity, Blackness in our society, Black representation, and turning adversity into ground-breaking movements.

The two films were featured on CBC Gem in 2021, as part of a collection titled BEING BLACK IN TORONTO. The directors are from the Fabienne Colas Foundation’s BEING BLACK IN CANADA, mentorship and creation program, entirely dedicated to Black filmmakers.
