Bios of Speakers/Panelists:
Candice Jay, CIM, FCSI, MFA-P (she/her), Connor, Clark & Lunn Private Capital Ltd.
Candice has over 16 years of experience in the financial industry and is a Partner and Wealth Advisor at CC&L Private Capital. Her practice guides and works with charitable foundations and high net worth clients to achieve their unique financial goals and strategies. Strategic philanthropy is also important part of Candice’s client conversations and she is passionate about helping clients identify values and areas where philanthropy can play a role. She has extensive experience helping business owners, generational families and women, further along their financial positioning and legacy.
Candice also plays leading roles in the charitable community and is on the executive board of the University of Toronto Alumni Association and UHN Foundation – UHN Impact Collective. She is also a member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners and leads engagement and mentorship for professional advisors across Canada.
In her spare time, Candice enjoys playing golf and tennis, and being in nature with her family and golden retriever, Maggie.
Jo-Anne Ryan FEA, MFA-P, Vice President, Philanthropic Advisory Services, TD Wealth
Jo-Anne Ryan is Vice President, Philanthropic Advisory Services at TD Wealth. She develops strategies to help clients incorporate philanthropy in their overall financial and estate plans. As a certified 21/64 advisor, she works with multi-generational families to guide them along their philanthropic journey. She has also led TD’s research efforts around Women and Philanthropy since 2014. She is the architect and Executive Director of the Private Giving Foundation, the first donor advised fund to be launched by a financial institution in Canada.
Jo-Anne is a member of Canadian Association of Gift Planner’s government relations committee. She is also the Vice Chair of the Board for Bishops University Foundation and is a member of the advisory board at Carleton University’s Masters in Philanthropy and Non-profit Leadership program – the only one of its kind in Canada.
Helen McLean, Executive Director, Donner Canadian Foundation & William H. Donner Foundation
Helen McLean is the executive director of the Donner Canadian Foundation, where she has worked for more than 25 years. She has also held that role at its sister organization, the William H. Donner Foundation, since 2021. She previously held senior positions at the Toronto Community Foundation, Ketchum Canada, and Arts and Communications Counselors.
A former director of Philanthropic Foundations Canada, she currently serves on its finance committee. She recently completed her term as a director of the Mabin School. Helen has an MBA from York University’s Schulich School and a BAH from Queen’s University.
Dreeni Geer B.A., J.D., Global Director of Child Rights, Equality, and Social Justice, Save the Children International
Dreeni Geer is the Global Director of Child Rights, Equality, and Social Justice at Save the Children International where she leads a global team of senior technical experts in governance, gender equality, disability inclusion, anti-racism and LGBTIQ+ equality. Dreeni has over 25 years of global experience in human rights law, advocacy, human rights programming in humanitarian and development contexts, and expertise in equity, diversity and inclusion.
Dreeni has worked in Canada and globally in multiple countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Her human rights practice has focused on inequality and discrimination across multiple protected grounds including sex, gender, disability, sexuality, race, ethnicity and religion.
She has served as a former Adjudicator for the Appeals Division, Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, and was also the inaugural Director of Human Rights and Equity at Lakehead University where she taught International Human Rights Law.
Dreeni holds a Juris Doctor from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waterloo.
