The Board of Directors of the Ontario SPCA maintains an open recruitment process, welcoming new Directors annually. We are currently seeking applications for Directors with governance experience in any other of the following areas: Animal Care, Information Technology, Donor Development/Fundraising and Marketing/Branding.  These are volunteer positions.

We actively seek candidates from across Ontario, of all backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability status, and socioeconomic status, and believe that diversity strengthens our team.

Working as partners with the Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors shape and set direction and governance policy, while ensuring financial sustainability and protecting the organization’s best interests.

  • Time Investment: Board Directors are expected to attend six board meetings throughout the year, which typically last two hours. Additionally, there may be committee meetings and special sessions as needed. Most meetings are virtual, but occasional travel to in-person board meetings in the GTA will be required.
  • Preparation: Board Directors should review all relevant materials prior to meetings to actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Term Length: Board Directors serve a term of three years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and mutual agreement.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity that has been operating for over 150 years. The Society provides care, comfort, and compassion to animals in need in communities across Ontario. It values all animals and advocates to treat them with respect and kindness. The Society strives to keep pets and people together and does so through a variety of community support services, such as adoptions and rehoming, community support services, spay/neuter services, pet insurance, dog rehabilitation, humane education, advocacy, emergency preparedness and advocacy.

The organization spans 14 locations across Ontario and currently has 260 staff members and 830 active volunteers who are dedicated to our purpose.
