Purpose:

Our division is comprised of four departments:

  • Advancement Services & Operations is the administrative and technology support unit for all Advancement activities.
  • Alumni Engagement provides programs, services, and engagement to over 360,000 York alumni worldwide.
  • Development leads efforts to promote and secure philanthropic support from alumni, donors, friends, corporations, and foundations.
  • Advancement Communications & Marketing works to promote and communicate alumni and donor messages along with direct marketing services for alumni and donor engagement.
  • Advancement at York is embarking on a multi-year CRM transformation project, changing from its current Advancement CRM to a vendor-driven CRM solution supporting all Advancement staff and alumni, donors, and volunteers.

The Data and Process Architect supports this mission by being responsible for the review and design of end-to-end business processes and the data models supporting the Division of Advancement business functions, in collaboration with the business areas strategic leadership and IT. The functional areas of focus are fundraising, engagement, stewardship, and events. This is a key role is in preparation for a move to a new Advancement CRM platform alongside a newly formed University master data management team.

The role will lead the process review, business requirements, cross-functional data needs analysis and data quality review. This is an integral part of the service transformation initiative to improve services within the Division of Advancement and its provision of services across the University. The incumbent is responsible for change initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control of mission-related data management for the Division of Advancement in coordination and collaboration with the University Master Data Management team.

Education:

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, and Data Science, Engineering or equivalent field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data management, data governance, or data engineering projects and demonstrated success in data visualization, business Intelligence, data warehouse and data quality analysis in the public, private or non-profit sector, preferably with experience of fundraising business processes, data requirements and metrics.
  • Includes minimum 3-5 years of managerial experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, implementing and reinforcing data management compliance policies and procedures.
  • Experience managing projects, budgets and schedules to successful completion.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated success in designing, developing and implementing data strategy and data management framework from ground up. Knowledge of and experience with data management and reporting in cloud-based environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate and analyze large data sets using Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and macros. Knowledge and experience with Business Intelligence including front-end BI tools, and relational and multi-dimensional database platforms.
  • Working knowledge of reporting packages (e.g., Google Analytics, Tableau, Power BI, JMP), statistical programming (e.g., SAS, R, Python) and query databases (e.g., Access, SQL).
  • Team oriented, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible, with excellent presentation skills, including strong oral and writing capabilities.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative to communicate issues and to provide realistic solutions, and independent judgment to collaborate with internal and external key stakeholders and establish systematic and iterative business analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of business processes, data or information management, data flows and data quality standards. Analytical ability to work with data and present results to non-technical audience.
  • Proficient in MS office (e.g., Excel, Access, Power Point, Word). Advanced Excel skill is preferred.
  • Proficient in cloud-based technologies (e.g., SharePoint, Dashboard).
  • Knowledge of Agile and lean working environment is asset.
  • Proficiency in English is essential and French language proficiency is an asset.

Compensation:

York’s CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
