POSITION DESCRIPTION:
At Stella’s Place, we’re committed to innovating and delivering effective mental health and recovery services to young adults.
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Annual Campaigns & Operations, the Development Officer will be responsible for generating philanthropic support for Stella’s Place, advancing its mission and fostering strong relationships with current and prospective donors. This is a front-facing and relationship building role. The successful candidate will manage a varied portfolio of annual and mid-level donors and prospects, including individuals, corporations, and small to midsize foundations. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years’ stewardship and donor engagement and will be ready to take their next steps in advanced prospecting, stewardship moves management strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fundraising Responsibilities – 85%
  • Build on and manage a portfolio of 100-150 mid-level individual and foundation donors, event prospects and sponsors.
  • Research, cultivate and write proposals, initiate contact and meet with existing and potential foundations and mid-level donors to present solicitations and close gifts of 4 and 5 figures.
  • Manage and build on a pipeline of 100 – 150 prospects from existing, lapsed and new donors.
  • Moves Management of Annual and Mid-Level donors. Responsible for moving donors and prospects through the donor-giving cycle and providing meaningful stewardship actions to secure repeat giving.
  • Create briefing notes, call reports, proposals, presentations, and use existing templates to complete gift agreements.
  • Support and strategize with assigned fundraising volunteers.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Annual Campaigns and Director, Major Gifts, on the solicitation and stewardship of donors (including annual, mid-level, and tribute donors)
  • Meet/exceed forecasted revenue and other key performance indicators (i.e. number of moves, meetings, and proposals per month)
  • Develop cultivation strategies for prospects, engage staff in collecting impact stories and work with the Fundraising Committee, Donors and other stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to build relationships with donors and prospects, and engage members of the staff as appropriate to make the most of those opportunities
  • Maintain consistent quality communications with donors, other staff, and the CDO
  • Ensure RE NXT (Raiser Edge) data capture and quality communications follow all gifts to provide thanks and documentation to donors
  • Support the efforts of Stella’s Place events and prepare follow-up plans to convert event participants and volunteers into donors
  • Maintain, update and report on all contact in RE NXT and on the portfolio’s pipeline to create associated revenue, gift and donor reports from Stella’s Place CRM
Administration – 15%
  • Collaborate with Senior Manager, Annual Campaigns and CDO to set portfolio annual and long-term revenue plans
  • Ensure that portfolio donors are recognized according to the donor recognition vehicles and policies of Stella’s Place
  • Assist in other duties as required in furthering the goals of the Development team and Stella’s Place
QUALIFICATIONS:
You are a curious, engaged individual looking to take your next career step in a vibrant and exciting young mental health charity.
  • Annual and/or mid-level gift experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years of extensive relationship-building experience in a fundraising environment or graduate certificate in Fundraising and a minimum of 18 months in direct donor engagement
  • Strong understanding of Raiser’s Edge NXT or equivalent donor/CRM database
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent writing, prospect research, donor communication, and presentation skills
  • The ability to conduct discovery calls
  • The ability to cold call, when appropriate
  • Knowledge of the Google operating system and Google suite of tools
  • Strategic thinker, and good listener, genuinely interested in others
  • Attention to detail for donor portfolio management
  • Qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Stella’s Place
PREFERENCE will be given to candidates with:
  • University degree or College diploma in fundraising/non-profit management/business or equivalent
  • Interest in or lived experience in supporting young adults and/or mental health
  • Proven track record of cultivating and securing gifts of $5,000 to $10,000+
  • Existing experience in a donor-facing role
  • Raiser’s Edge NXT experience
  • Letterbox Experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint an asset
WORKPLACE, HOURS & REPORTING:
Stella’s Place is an innovative, award-winning, designed facility located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Queen West and Bathurst. Regular communication, coaching, mentoring, personal and professional development, and evaluation will take place with the Senior Manager, Annual Campaigns and the Director, Major Gifts and Partnerships.
This is a full-time, hybrid, position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, including 3 in-office days per week. As a key part of the development team, some weekend and evening work will be required on occasion and tied to events or donor needs.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
$60,000 – $65,000

We offer 3 weeks vacation and 15 health days in year one, increasing to 4 weeks vacation in year two.
