Position Summary
The Director, Development plays a senior role in securing philanthropic support for St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation. Reporting to the VP Development, this position is accountable for advancing a portfolio of $100,000+ donors and prospects, with direct responsibility for multi-year and campaign gifts aligned with St. Joseph’s Health Centre’s highest-priority needs.
The Director provides strategic leadership in major gift fundraising, shaping donor engagement, portfolio strategy, campaign execution, and Foundation development initiatives. This position partners with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, board members, and fundraising volunteers, guiding both portfolio execution and broader team performance.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign Leadership
-Lead the development and execution of major gift strategies to secure six- and seven-figure commitments.
-Manage and grow a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects, ensuring thoughtful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
-Align fundraising strategies with organizational goals, programmatic needs, and long-term institutional priorities.
-Partner with senior leaders, board members and clinical teams to support donor engagement and high-level solicitation efforts.
-Provide strategic direction for priority fundraising initiatives, including stakeholder engagement, messaging, and revenue goals.
-Support campaign planning, execution, and progress tracking, ensuring targets are met and opportunities are maximized.
-Engage internal and external ambassadors to strengthen visibility and donor participation.
Prospect Strategy & Pipeline Development
-Identify, qualify, and develop new major gift prospects to ensure long-term pipeline growth. Use data-driven insights to inform prospect segmentation, engagement priorities, and forecasting.
-Collaborate with leadership to determine prospect assignments and portfolio strategies.
Team Leadership
-Contribute to departmental planning, goal setting, and the development of fundraising policies and best practices.
-Support performance management processes and help build a high-performing, collaborative, results-driven culture.
Donor Stewardship & Reporting
-Ensure personalized stewardship for major donors, including recognition strategies and impact reporting.
-Maintain accurate and timely records within the CRM (e.g., Raiser’s Edge or equivalent), ensuring data integrity and leveraging insights to guide decision-making.
-Track progress toward goals and contribute to regular reports for organizational leadership and the board.
Your Qualifications & Experience
-Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts, including multi-year and complex commitments.
-Experience working with corporate major gift donors would be an asset.
-Strategic thinker with authority to define portfolio and campaign strategies, balancing donor interests with institutional priorities.
-Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of influencing senior leaders, board members, physicians, and major donors.
-Strong proficiency in Raiser’s Edge or comparable CRM systems, with the ability to translate data into actionable fundraising insight.
-Deep commitment to healthcare philanthropy and understanding of its impact on patient care.
-CFRE designation or equivalent fundraising certification is an asset.
-Experience in hospital foundation or healthcare-related fundraising.
-Knowledge of planned giving strategies as they relate to major and principal gift fundraising.
