
Director, Fund Development and Campaign Strategy

Friends of Canadian Media is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization that stands up for Canadian voices in Canadian media – from public broadcasting to news, entertainment, culture, and online civil discourse,we work to protect and defend Canada’s rich cultural sovereignty and the healthy democracy it sustains.
The Role:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director, Fund Development and Campaign Strategy is the lead staff member responsible for planning and implementing the organization’s fundraising program. As a member of theorganization’s senior management team, the Director is also responsible for participating in planning and supporting the organization’s overall mission objectives. In addition to the Executive Director, Senior Management includes the Senior Director, Government & Media Relations and the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the organization’s operational planning processes and be responsible for generating donor revenue in support of annual and longer-term operational goals.
- Create and manage the implementation of annual fund development plans including specific information and objectives about each activity designed to acquire, steward, and upgrade donor
- Create and monitor the annual fund development department budget including revenue and expense projections.
- Involve the Executive Director, Board members, and other stakeholders, in donor relationship activities as appropriate.
- Maintain a process of continuous research about fundraising methods and create and manage the testing and evaluation of new activities.
- Maintain a practice of continuous campaign evaluation by identifying key performance indicators and measuring outcomes against them.
- Prepare quarterly detailed reports for the Executive Director showing actual campaign
- As necessary, provide the Executive Director with recommended revisions to budgets and
- Oversee and approve the creation of fundraising campaigns and supporter relations
- Collaborate with the Communications and Social Media teams to develop and implement social media content strategies.
- Manage relationships with third party
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
- Understanding of, and passion for, the mission and values of Friends of Canadian
- Ability to identify and solicit supporters for an organization that is not a registered
- Progressive management experience in a nonprofit organization with a demonstrated record of achieving financial and strategic goals.
- Knowledge of best practices and a commitment to maintaining fundraising professional, legal, and ethical standards.
- Experience creating successful fundraising plans that include multiple revenue
- Ability to identify and implement new revenue generation
- Excellent problem solving, research, and analytical skills, with a drive to exceed
- Experience personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding
- Experience with strategic goal setting, identifying the tactical steps required, and ability to motivate staff and volunteers to engage in the process.
- Experience managing and mentoring staff (three direct reports).
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively and meet competing
- Commitment to continuous learning and
- Demonstrated proficiency in Raiser’s Edge NXT (or similar CRM).
- Proficiency in speaking and writing French is an
- CFRE designation is asset
Position Details
- Location: Toronto
- Full time, permanent
- Hybrid work policy currently in effect (currently, mandatory two days in office)

- Salary range: $105,000-$120,000
