The Director, Signature Events (Walk & Journey to Conquer Cancer) plays a lead role in achieving The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation’s fundraising goals and in advancing The Princess Margaret’s vision to Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime.

The Director is responsible for the leadership of a dedicated, integrated and prioritized plan to maximize gross and net fundraising revenue for the events. This leadership role includes development of the plan but also, very importantly, its implementation and ongoing management.

Responsibilities:

  • Set and support the achievement of the annual event strategies and fundraising goals
  • Prospect and recruit NEW teams (corporate and community), participants and sponsors; you need to be very comfortable ‘asking’
  • Steward the existing major supporters of the events
  • Create win-win partnerships that, by aligning the interests of participants and teams with those of The Princess Margaret, increase, improve and deepen PMCF’s alliances with leading Ambassadors to ensure the achievement of goals set out in the plans
  • Establish and provide leadership to the Events with a view towards continual reinvention to maintain their position as leading Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Events
  • Work with and manage our event logistics agency to produce superior NPS scores.
  • Work in partnership with our internal events marketing team
  • Lead and inspire a team that supports the events
  • Oversight on event planning, management & execution
  • Be a leader within the Corporate & Community Partnerships team and at PMCF
Qualifications
  • Minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, business development, sponsorship, sales and/or marketing
  • Fundraising event management experience is preferred;
  • Strong strategic orientation and experience in establishing and delivering on long-term plans while leveraging immediate opportunities and managing short-term objectives
  • Proven track record in identifying strategic business development opportunities and developing and leading such initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, with proven interpersonal savvy and a keen sense of diplomacy
  • Experience working in a large, complex organization building consensus and achieving results
  • Effective project and event management skills
  • Solid business acumen along with advanced analytical and budgeting experience
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, (e.g. corporate partners, volunteers, agency staff and Cancer Centre representatives)
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed ability to create engaging, effective and targeted presentations coupled with confidence in presenting to diverse groups of varying sizes
