Position Overview
The Philanthropy Officer, reporting to and with the guidance and support of a Philanthropy Director responsible for a specific Hospital Program(s), will take ownership of cultivating and managing an active portfolio of engaged prospects and donors in securing financial support for priority projects and initiatives of Sunnybrook. The Philanthropy Officer will work alongside our hospital partners to understand programmatic content, strategic fundraising priorities and the impact of philanthropy to advance patient care. They will leverage their skill in relationship building when interacting with prospects, donors, and grateful patients, to better understand their experiences at Sunnybrook towards motivations for gift giving.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a portfolio of 75 – 100 major giving prospects and donors to secure annual fundraising targets of $1.5 – $2.5M.
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit a range of individual and corporate major gift donors.
- Prepare and maintain accuracy of all active donor files including all related donor record administration, including briefing notes and contact reports.
- Work in partnership with supervising Philanthropy Director to achieve Program-specific performance metrics and financial targets.
- Work with hospital physician and staff partners, with guidance from the Philanthropy Director, to build prospective donor pipeline from our grateful patient community.
- Collaborate with cross-functional business partners and teams to assist with the development and execution of cultivation, stewardship and/or marketing initiatives to maximize donor engagement.
- Collaborate with Stewardship partners to create effective stewardship and recognition plans for major giving donors to ensure deep and expanded commitment to Sunnybrook.
- Collaborate with other revenue programs to transition and expand donor relationships with Sunnybrook Foundation (i.e. midlevel giving, planned giving, community events)
- Act as an internal resource on Hospital Program(s) and major gift activity for cross-functional teams.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in philanthropy or relationship-based fundraising, with a proven track record of success in building and maintain relationships and achieving fundraising goals
- Experience developing gift strategies and execution, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of constituents, including volunteers, donors, Hospital partners and Foundation team members.
- Ability to analyze data, feedback and results, and make a sound judgement call to adjustment to business and donor needs.
- A person of integrity; committed to upholding professional ethics and encouraging philanthropic best practices.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and changing competing priorities.
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- High regard for accuracy and attention to detail when inputting and managing data in the Foundation’s systems.
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge an asset
Total Rewards Package
The hiring range for this position is $73,000-85,000. The salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s years of experience, qualifications and competencies that are relevant to this position.
In addition to salary, our competitive compensation package also includes, comprehensive health and dental benefits, HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan), hybrid work environment with a minimum of two (2) days in office, two (2) float days each fiscal year and additional Sunny Days (long weekend closures in advance of summer long weekends and Christmas Eve).
