THE OPPORTUNITY

The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH) leads a national movement of individuals, organizations and communities working together to end homelessness in Canada. The CAEH works toward a Canada without homelessness. We do it by helping communities and governments across the country apply proven approaches to transform programs, policies, and systems toward the goal of ending homelessness.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Philanthropy Lead, the Philanthropy Specialist is a results-oriented team player dedicated to ending homelessness in Canada. The Philanthropy Specialist – Grants and Sponsorships’ primary goal is to support the success of CAEH’s fund development strategies and tactics to further the mission of ending homelessness in Canada.

The Philanthropy Specialist will be an enthusiastic self-starter with exceptional relationship-building and communication skills. They will work closely with the communications team to grow revenue for CAEH’s programs, events, advocacy, and core operations through grant writing, conference sponsorships, and corporate partnerships. They will focus specifically on maintaining existing funding relationships and cultivating a pipeline of new foundation supporters, along with maintaining and acquiring new sponsors for CAEH’s national conference on ending homelessness and growing our corporate partnerships. The role will encompass the full cycle of grants and sponsors engagement from prospecting to reporting and will support the execution of CAEH’s fundraising and capacity campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Strategy and Execution

  • Identify through research grant prospects to support CAEH’s continuing growth (Grant Advance, Kindsight, etc.)
  • Working with the Philanthropy Lead, develop and execute cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for foundation funders
  • Working with program team members, draft and deliver LOI’s, EOI’s, LOE’s, and grant proposals to ensure fund development goals and program needs are met

Program and Campaign Support

  • Work closely with the Public Affairs team to ensure funder recognition obligations are met and support in the creation of stewardship materials, including print, web, and social media assets
  • Collaborate with the Public Affairs and Community Impact teams to ensure that grant deliverables are met, measured, and reported on in a timely manner.

Sponsor and Exhibitor Engagement

  • Working with the Event Lead, Maintain and secure sponsorships and exhibitors for the Alliance’s National Conference on Ending Homelessness and other events
  • Design and curate new opportunities for sponsorship and exhibitor sales.

Corporate Partnership Engagement

  • Build relationships with new and existing corporate partners, making solicitations for donations on behalf of CAEH when appropriate
  • Working across the organization, design and deliver employee engagement opportunities for corporate partners

Data and Relationship Management

  • Maintain accurate partner, funder, and sponsor information in the CRM system (NationBuilder) and ensure that all required reporting and documentation is submitted on time.

** In addition, other duties and special projects, as assigned, to advance the mission of reducing homelessness in Canada.

ABOUT YOU

You are an experienced fundraiser with a strong focus on grant writing, foundation funding, corporate partnerships and sponsorships. You excel at building meaningful relationships and turning them into lasting partnerships with a focus on multi-year funding agreements. When faced with challenges, you’re resourceful and solution-oriented, always looking for creative alternatives to achieve the desired outcome. You’re eager to collaborate on innovative solutions and have experience contributing to a growing team that is refining its philanthropic processes and philosophy.

Core Qualifications and Competencies

  • Passion for the Mission: A deep commitment to the mission of reducing homelessness, with a sense of urgency to drive meaningful change through public affairs and development.
  • Grant Writing Expertise: 3+ years previous work experience in grant writing
  • Sponsorship / Corporate Partnership / Business Development Experience: 3+ years or equivalent experience in corporate partnerships, sponsorship sales or business development
  • Compliance: A strong knowledge of CRA-compliant fund development practices, ethics, and strategies
  • Digital Tools: Expertise in NationBuilder, Zoom, and Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint and Teams
  • Verbal and Written Communication: Ability to effectively communicate the mission of CAEH and its various programs, events, and core operations to a variety of audiences in relevant and appropriate manners
  • Service Orientation: Customer service oriented with a demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, senior management, and external contacts
  • Equity and Inclusion: Understanding of diverse populations and challenges, with experience working from a diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-oppression framework. Lived experience of homelessness is considered an asset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (French & English)
  • CFRE accreditation or working towards accreditation

Additional Requirements

  • Preference for the candidate to be located in the Greater Toronto Area or Montréal.
  • Post-secondary education in business, marketing, communications, a related field, or the equivalent combination of school/work/experience in fund development
  • Willingness to travel domestically as needed
  • Alignment with the mission, culture, and values of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness
  • Highly organized and ability to work independently in a virtual office setting and self-manage to achieve aggressive goals while being a strong team player.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement including the ability to identify, analyze and solve problems independently.

Work Environment and Travel

  • Preference for this position to be located in the Greater Toronto Area or Montréal, but exceptional candidates from across the country may be considered.
  • This position requires the ability to work from a virtual/home office location without the standard support available at a business office.
  • Travel up to six times per year for meetings and events may be required.
