What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Senior Director, Annual Giving, the Senior Development Officer, Individual & Corporate Giving (“SDO”) will play a key role in generating philanthropic support for The Royal Conservatory of Music, advancing its mission to develop human potential through music and the arts. The SDO manages a diverse portfolio of mid-level donors and prospects, including individuals, corporations, and small to midsize foundations.
This role cultivates and maintains meaningful relationships with new and loyal donors from $5,000-$25,000 level, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the Annual Giving Program.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain a robust portfolio of active donors (individual, corporate and foundations) while proactively expanding it through strategic prospecting and cultivation efforts.
- Identify, research, and engage potential new donors, leveraging data-driven insights and relationship-building skills to convert prospects into dedicated supporters and elevate overall donor engagement.
- Develop customized donor communications with proposals, briefing notes, presentations, call reports, and letters.
- Assist with the implementation of cultivation and stewardship activities and events to facilitate meaningful donor relationships.
- Facilitate the customization and tracking of standard donor agreements.
- Assist the team in identifying and implementing appropriate donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies effectively and consistently.
- Actively monitor progress towards financial goals, enabling necessary action to meet and exceed targets.
- Liaise with other departments to remain current with priorities and plans. Identify, develop, and articulate areas for philanthropic support to diversify and expand The Conservatory’s funding opportunities and donor base.
- Diligently follow development practices and protocols for recording prospect and donor interactions to enable robust, accurate and ongoing relationship management.
- Perform other role-relevant duties as required.
What We’re Looking For
- 3-5 years in a development role, ideally within arts and culture, with a demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, and solicit mid-level ($5,000-$25,000) gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- A university degree or an equivalence in relevant education and experience.
- Proficiency in a range of fundraising techniques, including annual giving, mid-level gifts, bequests, and sponsorship.
- Superior and demonstrable written and verbal communication, with the ability to craft compelling proposals, presentations, and stewardship communications.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster long-term relationships with donors, patrons, corporate sponsors, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze donor data and metrics to identify giving trends and inform strategies.
- Proven experience in donor stewardship, showing an understanding of how to engage and retain supporters over the long term.
- Exceptional attention to detail; ability to develop, execute and follow through on plans and manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments, especially with program teams, to integrate development goals with organizational objectives.
- Diplomacy and the ability to uphold confidentiality are required.
- Flexible and able to work under pressure in a fast paced and results-oriented environment.
- Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and high degree of comfort working with donor databases (consistency in data entry/management and reporting).
Salary Range
- $70,000 – $80,000 per annum
Additional Information
- This role requires one to be willing and able to support work on evenings and weekends where required (i.e., for fundraising events and opportunities to meet with donors).
- Role is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, with a minimum of two days of on-site work per week required, inclusive of RCM All Staff days.
