In December of 2024, we completed Feel Out Loud, a historic, national movement to provide young people in every corner of Canada with expanded access to e-mental health services. Building on the success of this incredible campaign and to continue fueling our important mission, we’re growing our innovative fundraising team by adding two new frontline fundraising roles.

Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only free, 24/7 service offering professional counselling, information, referrals, and texting support for young people in both English and French, providing life-changing support to youth millions of times each year.  In fact, we’ve recorded an astounding 21.5 million interactions since 2020.

We began in 1989 as a unique telephone counselling service, and for 35 years, we’ve evolved our response and innovated our offerings and technology to stay relevant to youth, recognizing the complexity of issues they face.

The Opportunities

In partnership with Kids Help Phone’s Philanthropy leadership team, the two new Senior Development Officers (SDOs) will develop, execute, and oversee a sophisticated pipeline with targeted strategies aimed to maximize engagement and philanthropic support with gifts in the 6-figure and 7-figure range.

The SDO, Philanthropy will develop and build relationships to cultivate gifts primarily from existing and new individual and Foundation donors, while the SDO, Philanthropy and Partnerships will do the same from existing and new corporate donors. They will each manage a portfolio of assigned prospects, with production, cash, and activity goals set annually.

The successful candidates will be ambitious, curious, and passionate fundraising professionals with experience in major gift fundraising. They will be self starters who understand the importance of authentic and respectful relationship building, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and are eager to develop their portfolios to generate maximum impact for Canada’s youth.

What You’ll Contribute:

The Senior Development Officers will:

  • Grow and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects to secure 6-figure and 7-figure major gifts (multi-year commitments where possible). These donors and prospects will largely be based in Toronto and across Ontario.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of KHP funding priorities and apply this knowledge in matching the interests and needs of donors and prospects.
  • Develop comprehensive and tailored funding proposals and grant applications to donors and prospects, partnering with peers across the Advancement team as needed.
  • Manage pipeline activity, including prospect identification (working with Prospect Research) and timely and appropriate stewardship plans (working with Donor Experience).
  • Work with Advancement colleagues on the development of internal communications, briefing notes, research profiles, funding proposals, gift agreements, stewardship reports, and accountability reports.
  • Ensure that donor records are maintained and updated accurately in a timely manner.
  • Support the activities of the VP, Philanthropy, via the preparation of briefing notes, solicitation strategy development, proposal development, stewardship accountabilities, etc, for corporate, individual, and Foundation prospects and donors.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, with a commitment to equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion initiatives designed to foster an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming work environment for individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities.

What You’ll Need:

  • University or college degree in fundraising, sales, marketing, business development, or corporate account management, or combination of related experience.
  • Three or more years of progressive Major Gifts experience, with demonstrated success in soliciting multi-year gifts at the 6-figure and 7-figure level.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to proactively monitor and adjust activities to respond to changing circumstances and priorities to meet goals, proactively address issues as they arise, and mitigate risks.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in order to communicate complex material successfully with internal and external audiences.
  • Experience working with leadership volunteers to identify and cultivate prospective donors is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Raiser’s Edge NXT or related fundraising database system.  Experience using PowerBI considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel (valid driver’s license preferred).
  • Willingness and ability to attend evening and weekend events.
  • Fluency in French considered an asset.
