Location: Hybrid work model, currently minimum 3 days in office. When in office, on site at the Hospital: 1235 Wilson Avenue, Level 1, North York, Ontario.

Compensation: $180,000 – $220,000 + comprehensive benefits including HOOPP pension. Compensation will be determined commensurate with experience.

The Position

The Vice President, Philanthropy plays a critical role in driving the hospital’s fundraising efforts and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organization.  Our successful candidate will be strategic and visionary leader, with a bias to action and alongside the President & CEO, drive the revenue growth of the Foundation through the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major and transformational gifts. The Vice President will lead a team, engage the Board of Directors, and work to cultivate a robust pipeline of donors capable of making $500K to $1,000,000 contributions towards the hospital’s key priority areas. The Vice President will be a key architect of the foundation’s next phase of growth, ensuring long-term sustainability and impact.

Key Responsibilities

Major Gifts, Research and Stewardship Portfolios

  • Partner with the CEO and the Foundation leadership team to support development of the Foundation’s strategy and operational planning
  • Partner with the President & CEO, philanthropy team, and executive volunteers on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts
  • Oversee and personally provide the required appropriate support, mentoring, coaching, and encouragement to Foundation Major Gifts Staff, Board member and executive volunteers
  • In partnership with colleagues, create and integrate strategies to better reach diverse constituencies and communities to build major gifts relationships
  • Partner with marketing and communications staff on the development and refinement of the case for support, proposals, and stewardship materials

People Leadership

  • Consult, engage, and actively collaborate with fellow Foundation leadership Team members
  • Provide leadership, direction, encouragement, and management to the MG and Planned Giving team, creating an environment of respect, accountability, motivation, professional growth, and high productivity
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, development, and performance of staff members
  • Encourage the commitment of staff to the mission, vision, and values of the Foundation
  • Engage team members to work collaboratively towards the integration of programs and activities in support of the foundation and hospital’s collective goals

Executive Volunteer & Partner Engagement

  • Develop and contribute to positive relationships with HRH Senior Leadership Team, CEO, Chief of Staff, as well as executive volunteers, physicians, clinicians, and hospital staff
  • Lead the identification, recruitment, training, and support of leadership volunteers for the Major Gift programs
  • With program leads, lead the identification of physicians, clinicians, and senior staff to act as Foundation ambassadors and to help develop and solicit Major Gift prospects (intra-professional team engagement)
  • Foster and encourage heightened awareness of and engagement with the work of the Foundation across HRH
  • Support activities, attitudes, and behaviours that further the culture of philanthropy within HRH
  • Develop relationships with Foundation’s Board and key volunteers to secure their confidence, trust, and commitment

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years progressive fundraising experience, with a proven track record of securing $1M+ gifts
  • Proven relationship management skills, with high EQ
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a culture that values teamwork over self
  • Collaborative mindset, strives to work effectively with cross-functional teams and understands the benefits
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a superior ability to build and foster solid relationships, effectively manage complex protocols and expectations
  • Ability to rise to new challenges and find creative solutions – resourceful and tenacious
  • Strong presence, grit, poise, persuasiveness, and the appropriate confidence to earn credibility with senior management

Ideally will possess:

  • Hospital/healthcare exposure and experience
  • Raiser’s Edge Experience
  • Experience working with volunteer boards and senior volunteers
  • Campaign experience
  • CFRE
