Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only free, 24/7 service offering professional counselling, information, referrals, and texting support in both English and French. We provide life-changing support to youth millions of times each year. Since our inception in 1989 as a unique telephone counselling service, we’ve evolved and innovated to stay relevant to youth, addressing the complex issues they face.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate, visionary leader with strong fund development and strategic management skills to inspire individual, corporate, and foundation major gift philanthropy in support of Kids Help Phone and the historic $300 million Feel Out Loud campaign. This critical role, as a member of our Executive Committee, will drive the success of the campaign, ensure long-term financial sustainability, and shape the future of our organization. Your primary mission will be to propel Kids Help Phone into the future through securing major, multi-year pledges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow the national major gifts program with a high-performing team, ensuring meticulous moves-management workflow.
  • Act as a senior solicitor, partnering with senior volunteers and executive staff to strategically cultivate and steward donors.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and liaison to donors, the CEO, senior executives, leadership volunteers, and allied professionals to secure principal gift commitments.
  • Meet and exceed personal and team production and cash goals annually.
  • Engage the CEO, SVPs, and senior volunteers in prospect development.
  • Develop professional profile through industry events, networking, and thought-leadership activities.
  • Develop and track program budget and key performance indicators against goals to promptly identify challenges and solutions.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Funding Priorities to match prospects’ interests and needs.

Critical Success Factors:

  • Stakeholder Satisfaction & Engagement: Earn the confidence and respect of colleagues, volunteers, staff, donors, and Campaign Cabinet.
  • Best Practices & Team Leadership: Create an inclusive, high-performing major gifts team with clear priorities, strong retention, and high productivity.
  • Robust Pipeline: Develop ongoing proposals and future plans for major and transformational gifts.
  • Synergy: Align the goals and activities of the major gifts team with other advancement groups and stakeholders.
  • Personal Impact: Personally solicit and secure major gift donations, becoming one of the top fundraisers.
  • Achievement of Campaign Revenue Goals: Manage and develop a pipeline of over $100 million in major giving through all stages of the donor cycle.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum ten years of progressive experience in fundraising programs, focusing on principal and major gifts.
  • Proven ability to manage senior-level staff and engage teams to create collaborative impact.
  • Demonstrated success in securing seven- and eight-figure gifts.
  • Knowledge of diverse giving vehicles and integrated gift strategies.
  • Success in working with CEOs, senior executives, and leadership volunteers.
  • Strategic planning, budgeting, and financial management skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of Kids Help Phone.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with donors, suppliers, staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service and judgment skills.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, and electronic databases.
  • AFP, ADRP, or AHP membership is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport for travel within Canada.
  • Ability to pass a Vulnerable Person Sector Criminal Reference Check and a Police Reference Check.
