Message from the Chair
2020 hasn’t been what we were expecting.
This year has asked us to confront our privilege, our differences, and our collective experiences all at once. It’s asked us to stand up for one another and to believe in kindness. And, it’s asked that we relook at “how we’ve always done things” and question if it’s the easiest way or the right way to do it.
AFP Greater Toronto Chapter’s Congress is an internationally renowned fundraising conference that shares fundamentals, deep dives, the latest trends, and hot topics in our sector. But, with the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve had to rethink how we deliver it in 2020. We also acknowledge this event hasn’t been accessible to everyone in the past.
By taking Congress to a digital space this year, we’re challenging the status quo of how this conference has traditionally run, taking some risks, and making it more inclusive. We’ll still be presenting top quality content and showcasing the amazing work of our industry colleagues, but it’s going to look and feel a whole lot different than before.
So, we’re calling it Not Congress – because it’s just that. It’s NOT Congress. It’s something new, different, and evolving.
I’m very excited about this leap into the virtual conference world for the chapter, my fellow AFP members, and fundraisers everywhere. Although I won’t be able to “see you there” in person, I invite you to reach out to me anytime to chat or connect, as our networks are even more important when we can’t be physically together.
2020 has shown we have a lot to learn and a lot of growing to do. Please join me in doing some of that at NOT Congress this November!
