The Training Academy for Outdoor Professionals is an OBC initiative to address challenges within the outdoor sector related to high unemployment by providing training for aspiring outdoor instructors. THE ROLE
The Manager, Annual Giving and Community Engagement will play a key role in developing and executing strategies to increase annual giving. This position is responsible for managing the annual fundraising portfolio, and increasing revenue through community engagement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fundraising, excellent communication skills, and a passion for engaging with the community. This position is essential in advancing OBC’s mission through effective communication, engagement activities, and fundraising initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a passion for community building, excellent organization and communication skills, and a proven track record in community engagement leading to successful individual giving campaigns.
WHAT WE OFFER
Location: Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver (The role is mainly remote; our preference is for a candidate who lives within commuting distance to one of our program office spaces)
Salary: $60,000 – $65,000
Benefits: OBC provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes three weeks of paid time off, additional sick and wellness days, a group RRSP plan, and employer-paid extended health and dental care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Annual Giving Program
- Design and lead innovative annual giving campaigns to increase donor participation and annual giving.
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit individual donors through personalized outreach and relationship-building.
- Develop compelling fundraising materials and appeals to inspire individual contributions.
- Manage donor recognition programs to acknowledge and thank donors for their support.
- Analyze campaign performance and donor data to optimize strategies and improve results.
Stakeholder Engagement and Alumni Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including community members, partners, and volunteers.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy aimed at fostering lifelong relationships and converting alumni into donors.
- Coordinate stakeholder events and meetings to foster collaboration and support for the organization’s initiatives.
- Represent the organization at external events and functions to enhance its visibility and reputation.
- Gather feedback and insights from stakeholders to inform the organization’s strategies and programs
Communications & Marketing
- Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan to promote engagement and giving opportunities.
- Create engaging content for various platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, and print materials.
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Team to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications.
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication efforts, making adjustments as needed.
Date Management & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of alumni, donors, and stakeholder interactions in the CRM system.
- Track and report on engagement and fundraising metrics to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on community engagement activities and outcomes.
WHAT YOU BRING

- A self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit that takes initiative
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Communications) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, and donor relations, with experience in community engagement leading to successful revenue generation in the nonprofit sector.
- Proven track record of successful annual giving campaigns and donor stewardship.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse groups.
- Proficient of a CRM database (e.g., NetSuite, Keela, Raiser’s Edge, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and meetings.
