Development Officer, Events
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection ranks among Canada’s top public galleries in size and significance. The Gallery, exhibition, and programming space, comprising 25,000 sq.ft., are surrounded by a network of outdoor trails, an outdoor sculpture garden, and 100 acres of conservation land with breathtaking views of the Humber Valley. Over 6,500 works of art representing the art of Canada comprise the permanent collection, and the gallery welcomes on average more than 115,000 visitors on an annual basis – in person and virtually.
The Development Office is responsible for all fundraising activities, liaising with key stakeholders across all donor constituencies, and serving as a definitive focal point for our relationship with donors and influencers.
We are seeking a passionate, forward-thinking, creative, and art-loving individual to fulfill a crucial role on our team. The Development Officer, Events supports the Development Office in the conception, planning, and execution of events ranging from exhibition openings and cultivation activities to key fundraisers. The position will build invitation lists, produce event creative and social media campaigns and work closely with key contacts across the museum to ensure diverse audience representation. Key event engagement will include responsibility for the Gallery’s signature annual fundraiser, the Moonlight Gala, Canadian art’s biggest night under the stars. The individual will also act as a key resource to the McMichael as it plays host at the Opening Night celebration of Art Toronto, Canada’s preeminent art fair.
The ideal candidate will be an organized, enthusiastic administrator with career aspirations for supporting and being part of a high performing collegial team. This role is based at the McMichael, with the combined opportunity to work remotely in the GTA or surrounding region (on-site presence required for events).
Skills required:
The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree/diploma in event planning, marketing/ communications, museum studies, public relations or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Three to five years’ experience in public facing event planning, marketing/communications, fundraising, museums, cultural organizations, or related field is required. Superior planning, organization, and time management skills are needed along with a client service orientation. Experience with CRM systems like Raiser’s Edge and excel and an interest/experience in the arts are desirable.
