Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA)

Director, CEO Office

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) operates Toronto Pearson International Airport—the largest airport in Canada, among the top five gateways into the United States, and one of the world’s most internationally connected airports. Recognized by the Airports Council International (ACI) as the “Best Large Airport in North America serving more than 40 million passengers” for the sixth time, GTAA is poised to accelerate its transformative journey. At this vital juncture in Pearson’s evolution—and at the inception of an exciting and massive infrastructure program that will be revered by the industry—the organization is steadfastly committed to the provision of an exceptional passenger experience, continuing to be a central artery for global travel, and manifesting the ‘airport of the future.’ Leveraging Toronto’s status as one of the fastest-growing cities in North America and the world’s most multicultural centre, GTAA will continue to harness this status and diversity to further position Pearson as the premier gateway for travelers worldwide.

This is an exciting time for GTAA, a time marked by innovation and growth. In light of this, GTAA is seeking applications for the position of Director, CEO Office—a position that will play an important role in advancing the mandate of the CEO’s office and, by extension, the overall organization.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director, CEO Office coordinates multiple programs on the CEO’s behalf and serves as the primary interface for executive team matters. As a liaison for the CEO, the Director helps remove barriers and resolve issues hindering corporate performance, manages strategic initiatives under the purview of the CEO, leads office staff, and ensures that management committees, activities, and practices are working effectively across the organization. The Director aids in long-term planning of the CEO’s priorities and scheduling, and updates and monitors policies and procedures set by the CEO. This role is quite senior, as the person appointed to the position routinely interfaces with Pearson’s Board of Directors and the senior leadership team, requiring the Director to operate with discretion and finesse to appropriately represent the CEO Office. The successful candidate must be keen to learn the business thoroughly, becoming a trusted business partner and sounding board to the CEO and others within the organization with whom they’ll regularly interact.

Qualifications

Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming Director must have a deep and abiding commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in all its forms and must believe, intrinsically, in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility. While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the GTAA environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the role: A) a post-secondary degree or diploma, with a business degree or MBA considered an asset; B) several years of experience as a department leader, Chief of Staff, or Senior-Level Business Partner in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; C) the experience and gravitas required to effectively represent a CEO overseeing a large and complex organization; D) a proven track record of taking initiative and driving outcomes, with a leadership style that balances political astuteness, decisiveness, polish, and humour, and; E) strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to effectively manage volume and competing priorities.
