Salary Range: $115K to S135K, compensation in lieu of benefits, and eligible for annual performance pay plan

About Townsend Smith Foundation
Our mission is simple, but ambitious: we believe every resident of North Halton deserves access to compassionate, individualized hospice palliative care, close to home. We help individuals and families realize their full potential to live—even when facing end of life—by supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical needs. Our vision? A community where everyone has access to a dignified and caring end-of-life journey.

The Role
As our Development Director, you’ll be the driving force behind our capital fundraising efforts. Your main job: design, build, and execute a creative, high-impact fundraising program that secures the future of our hospice. You’ll lead everything from major donor cultivation to grant writing, special events, planned giving, and donor stewardship. You’ll manage a small but mighty team, collaborate with volunteers and community leaders, and work directly with our Executive Director and Board to chart a bold fundraising course. This is a management-level role—perfect for a builder, a connector, and a natural leader.

What You’ll Do
•Fundraising Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising business plan covering capital and operational needs, with clear action plans, targets, and timelines. You’ll spearhead major gift solicitation, annual appeals, grant applications, special events, planned giving, and sponsorships.
•Donor Cultivation & Stewardship: Build strong, lasting relationships with individual and corporate donors. Design and execute stewardship programs that keep supporters engaged and appreciated.
•Event Management: Oversee signature and third-party fundraising events. Evaluate effectiveness, drive improvements, and ensure donor recognition and engagement are always front and center.
•Team Management: Recruit, supervise, and mentor development staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
•Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board, and Campaign Cabinet to set fundraising targets and integrate fundraising into the organization’s strategic plan.
•Reporting & Accountability: Prepare regular reports for the Executive Director, Board, and funders. Keep all stakeholders in the loop about progress, challenges, and wins.
•Community Representation: Represent Townsend Smith Foundation at events, speaking engagements, cheque presentations, and with key community stakeholders. Be a public face and passionate advocate for our mission.
•Communications & Marketing: Support the creation of compelling campaign materials, digital content, and donor communications in partnership with communications staff.
•Best Practices & Compliance: Stay up to date on CRA charitable donation regulations, fundraising trends, and donor relations best practices. Ensure policies, procedures, and records are current and compliant.
•Budget Management: Develop and manage the fundraising budget; monitor progress toward annual and capital targets; provide timely analysis and course-correction as needed.

What You Bring
•Proven success in fundraising (especially major gifts) within the charitable sector, ideally leading capital campaigns or large-scale fundraising initiatives.
•Hands-on experience with grant writing, sponsorship proposals, and event management.
•Strong relationship-building skills—with donors, volunteers, staff, and community stakeholders alike.
•Excellent communication and public speaking skills; comfortable representing the Foundation at events and in the media.
•Strong computer literacy, including database management and donor tracking.
•Ability to work evenings/weekends as needed, and valid driver’s license for local travel.

Why Join Us?
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of hospice care in North Halton. You’ll have the autonomy and support to build something truly meaningful, surrounded by a dedicated team and a community that cares deeply about our mission. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and leave a legacy for generations to come, we want to meet you.
