Hiring Salary Range: $120,000 – $140,000. Eligible for additional compensation in annual performance bonus. Employer also pays defined-benefit pension contributions.

Role Summary:
The Senior Director, Campaigns, under the leadership of the Vice President, Philanthropy, will be responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic campaign objectives and the successful implementation of a campaign plan. An experienced major gift fundraiser, the Senior Director, Campaigns will also manage a pipeline and secure individual major gifts ($25K+) and transformational gifts, and, in collaboration with the VP, Philanthropy, create and implement strategies for campaign success and sustainable growth.
Bringing best practices from other reputable charities, you will develop and execute tailored cultivation and stewardship moments, moving donors successfully through the donor journey. This fundraising role also includes working with stakeholders across the organization, collaborating with senior volunteers, developing proposals, helping to identify funding opportunities, and creating and managing budgets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Campaign – 80%                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            As above, reporting directly to the VP, Philanthropy and working collaboratively with the VP, Philanthropy and the Foundation and Library Leadership team:

  • Responsible for managing a discreet individual portfolio of major and transformational campaign prospects and donors (between 25-75)
  • Collaborate with and support the VP, Philanthropy, CEO and senior volunteers in cultivating, securing and stewarding major and transformational gifts
  • Working with the VP, Philanthropy, provide recommendations for the development and implementation of systems to identify, research, cultivate and solicit qualified major and transformational gift prospects for the campaign, ensuring best-practice pipeline management practices.

Managing Campaign Operations                                                                                                                    – –

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the campaign, including strategic oversight of the Campaign project plan in relation to themes, goals, timelines/milestones, volunteer structure, budget and staffing, communications, events, naming and recognition strategies, and other related work
  • In close collaboration with the VP, Philanthropy & CEO, work with internal TPL team to advance the development of campaign priorities and assets (e.g. naming opportunities)
  • Provide strategic consultation to leadership team on all campaign-related activities.
  • Collaborate with Leadership Team, Foundation and Library staff and other stakeholders to implement the campaign’s strategic plan

Campaign Donor-facing Communications

  • Oversee preparation of campaign communications, including Case for Support and related materials, proposals, gift agreements, partnership agreements and stewardship reports

Volunteer Management

  • Recruit, orient and train all campaign volunteers and ensure timely day-to-day support of Campaign Cabinet
  • Prepare campaign materials and presentations for the Campaign Cabinet and Board committees
  • Build and manage annual expense and revenue budgets for campaign ensuring targets are met and expenses are within budget

Staff Leadership – 20%

  • Oversee and provide leadership to Development Coordinator focused on campaign work
  • Contribute to TPLF strategic planning and annual operational planning
  • Work closely with other senior TPLF team members to establish and maintain best practices and to ensure strategic alignment of priorities
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards and ensure compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of directly-related experience in a fundraising environment
  • Demonstrated experience developing strategies and managing a major gift portfolio with a proven track record of meeting targets, ideally in the context of a large fundraising campaign
  • Experience working with senior volunteers and stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with experience creating compelling fundraising proposals and customized donor correspondence
  • Well-developed budget management skills
  • Experience using a donor database in a fundraising environment, preferably Raisers Edge. Experience with sophisticated moves management and pipeline reporting an asset
  • Experience in leading staff through coaching, directing, motivating, and evaluation
  • Knowledge of the fundraising industry, philanthropic trends, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, general fundraising best practices
  • Knowledge of the Toronto philanthropic and literary communities is an asset
  • Proficiency in applicable computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
