The COF is the only Foundation in Canada that raises funds to support athletes at all stages of their Olympic journey – from the spark of an Olympic dream to the moment they step on the podium and beyond their competition days.

Reporting to the Manager, Fund Development, the Specialist, Fund Development focuses on supporting the major gift team in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift donors. This role is a key member of the fundraising team, responsible for supporting Team Canada’s major gift fundraising efforts. The Specialist plays a vital role in maintaining the major gift pipeline and supporting bespoke fundraising initiatives. The ideal candidate is a proactive and organized self-starter with a strong attention to process, curiosity, and a passion for fundraising.

LOCATION

This position will be located in the COC office in Toronto, ON at 250 Yonge St. Suite 3000. We offer a hybrid work model that allows for up to two days of remote work each week.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIORITIES

  • Support the Manager, Fund Development in the strategy, planning and execution of major gift activities and engagements
  • Manage and grow a small portfolio of mid-level and major gift prospects through the donor cycle
  • In collaboration with COC colleagues, manage corporate philanthropy to the Foundation in alignment with funding needs, including fulfillment of existing programs, co-developing new innovative revenue opportunities, stewardship and impact reporting
  • Work closely with development colleagues to ideate fundraising cultivation and solicitation strategies and stewardship of major donors
  • Support and inform the creation of communications material including briefing documents, solicitation strategies, funding proposals, gift agreements, stewardship reports, presentations and other fundraising materials as required
  • Support major gift pipeline management and data analysis
  • Ensure the CRM records are current and maintain excellent data integrity
  • Approach fund development and donor engagement with cultural competence and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Exemplify a positive team approach to success and achievement towards personal and team goals
  • Assist in furthering the goals of the Development and Foundation team as well as the shared objectives of the COC
  • Other duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITICAL SKILLS

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience with a charitable fundraising organization and/or knowledge of the philanthropic sector in Canada including CRA regulations

Skills and Abilities

  • Enthusiastic, collaborative, and works well under pressure
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence and persuade others
  • Understanding of major gift fundraising and the donor cycle
  • Experience using and maintaining a donor management software (CRM system) to ensure accurate and actionable data
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented
  • Strong analytical, judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility in working hours (occasional evenings and weekends) and a willingness to travel infrequently within Canada
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to balance several projects at the same time, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with various internal and external colleagues/stakeholders
  • Ability to speak and write in French is a strong asset
