ParticipACTION is a Canadian non-profit charitable organization and an enduring part of Canada’s physical activity history, encouraging people to get healthy by getting active since 1971.

As Canada’s leading physical activity organization, ParticipACTION works with its partners, which include organizations in the sport, physical activity and recreation sectors, alongside government and corporate sponsors, to help people move more where they live, learn, work and play.

Through our award-winning public education campaigns, best-in-class thought leadership and innovative engagement initiatives, we’re working to build a more resilient and accessible culture of movement by removing barriers and creating opportunities for everyone living in Canada to make room to move in their daily lives.

The Opportunity

ParticipACTION is seeking to fill three Director vacancies on its National Board of Directors to serve a three-year term beginning in September 2025.

Our Board is comprised of individuals who are passionate about the vision and mission of the organization. We reflect a combined expertise in academia, health, technology, business, government, and sport.

Based on the composition of current board members and the needs of the organization, ParticipACTION is seeking skilled, dynamic leaders with extensive experience and expertise in one or multiple of the following areas:

• Philanthropy/Charitable Fundraising
• Government Relations/Public Policy/Advocacy
• Corporate Leadership/Change Management
• Physical Activity/Sport Issue expertise

Beyond these areas of functional expertise, the Board will prioritize candidates whose personal backgrounds will also enhance the social diversity of the Board in terms of factors such as age, ethnocultural background, gender, and language.

 Director Roles and Responsibilities

In governing ParticipACTION, the Board both oversees and supports ParticipACTION’s CEO and is responsible for the organization’s strategic direction, its policies and risk management.

ParticipACTION’s directors serve as ambassadors for the organization and leverage their expertise and relationships within their areas of influence to advance ParticipACTION’s mission. Directors are expected to actively participate in four Board meetings per year and as a member of one Board Committee (Finance and Audit or Partnerships or Governance and Nominating).
